Prose log with Watari

Who: Euram and Watari
What: Euram is looking for something in Watari's pantry, Watari was less than pleased to not be informed first.

Euram was unusually twitchy, even for him, as he entered the little bakery. It was later in the day; he wasn’t going to ruin his good streak of avoiding everyone by going to a public place at a time when they might be about. It seemed he had chosen correctly as he couldn’t see anyone else about. “Hello?” he called quietly making his way to the counter. When he didn’t hear an immediate answer, he looked around shiftily and made his way to the back area.

It was quiet in the cafe, and Watari took that time to make a quick run the stables and leave hot tea and hot chocolate for Kinnison. Saying a quick hello and goodbye to his lover, he made his way back to the bakery. He entered and he was about to pass around and into the back again when he stopped. Listening. Something was wrong. Someone was here and it wasn't Faylen or Norma. Reading himself to fight, just in case, he headed back on silent steps, following the noise to his pantry. He glanced in and his eyes narrowed. "Euram." A single name, said so neutrally it was scary.

“AAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHH!” the calm of the café was ruined by the loud shriek. Euram jumped and spun around to see who had snuck up on him, with a hand to his chest waiting for his heart to go back to a normal pace. “Oh..oh my..” he got out between fast breaths, before getting back under some semblance of control. “Don’t do that!”

Watari leaned against the doorway to the pantry, effectively blocking Euram's avenue of escape. "And I should say you shouldn't be sneaking through my kitchen."

Euram was still shaken, and now further distressed by the reprimand. “Sneaking?” he repeated, his tone almost comical. “I? Of course not! My how horrible an assumption! Truly…”

"I assume as much because you didn't ask me if you could come back here, and you screamed as if you didn't expect me to come back," Watari pointed out calmly, his blue-gold eye watching the blonde noble without any real expression.

Unless actively trying not to, Euram’s first reaction was always to deny and then pin the blame on someone else. Still startled as he was he didn’t even realize he was doing so, even as he backed up from the terrifying expression on the other’s face. “Ah, yes well…naturally any would be startled after being so rudely approached! Yes..and..of course I would seek out others, when the door was open but the area disserted…” He stopped as he was further startled when his backing up took him into the wall.

"Behind my counter?" Watari reasoned. "Where customers never go? Where only the chef and waitresses are allowed? You could have found me easier by simply waiting for me, not looking in my pantry. And why would I be in here when I did not answer your call at first?"

Euram looked about as he tried to come up with a logical reason for all of the questions. When one was not forthcoming he instead fell back on anger. “That isn’t the point!”

Watari sighed and straightened off the wall, keeping his arms crossed and watching Euram. "What is it your after?"

Euram sighed as his brilliant verbal play seemed to have worked. “Why, what does one usually hope to procure when they come here? Haha,” he laughed to make him seem calm. However, it sounded more nervous than anything, and only accented his continued twitching.

"You don't cook," Watari deadpanned.

“Of course not, why else wo…” Euram paused and looked to the side petulantly. “I came for some tea, for reasons that are not your concern.”

"If you wanted tea, all you had to do was ask," Watari rose and moved into the pantry, reaching onto one of the higher shelves and drawing out several boxes of different teas. "Do you have a preference?"

“It is quite difficult to accomplish that when being so rudely interrogated,” Euram complained, finally moving away from the wall. He shrank into himself as Watari went to work. He knew what he wanted, but wasn’t able to express it with words. “What types do you have?”

"Almost all of them," Watari shrugged. "Jasmine, lavender, mint, chamomile, honeysuckle, and so on." He had no idea what Euram was up to, but to be honest he didn't want to play his games.

Euram was outwardly getting aggravated, as he fidgeted with the lace at his wrists. “What are their purposes?” he asked, a bit on the snappish side though his expression did not match.

Watari cocked a brow at the boy. "Most aim towards relaxation or sleep. Why do you ask?"

“Well they don’t work!” Euram pouted back, almost like it was Watari’s fault.

"I do have some herbs you can add, if you are having trouble with insomnia," Watari said delicately, watching Euram closely. Something was off....

“Oh and I should trust your addition should I?” Euram asked, almost back to laughing nervously. “I do seem to recall your last offer of herbs were to end everything not merely insomnia, hehe.”

"It wasn't a good morning when you asked for them," Watari stated, as close to an apology to Euram was he going was to get. "And you weren't exactly being amiable in the way of taking what help I offered in the first place."

“Are you denying that you have such plants then?” Euram asked, ignoring the reprimand.

"I'm not saying I don't," Watari leveled his gaze at him. "But I do not lightly bandy them about either, and I certainly do not keep them in my kitchen of all places."

“How am I supposed to know that?” Euram accused, arms starting to wave in an onset of a tantrum. “You were so quick to suggest their use it is logical to assume you would keep them within easy reach.”

"Well, I don't, not around here. I don't know who could come back in here - Norma, Faylen, Wyatt, or heavens forbid Nanami. I don't want them accidentally adding something dangerous to what they cook," he pointed out with calm logic.

“Ah…an excellent point I had not considered,” Euram said, coming instantly back from a full fit of childish temper. “Well then,” he said making motions to leave, having already forgotten he’d given a different reason for his being there.

Watari calmly moved to block his path yet again. "I thought you wanted tea," he dragged the original purpose right back in, not one to beat around the bush by any means.

A momentary flash of confusion crossed Euram’s face, before he remembered and tried to ‘expertly’ cover it up. “Oh yes, the tea…haha ,yes…” He made what was obviously a show of looking back at the selections before turning again, “I do not believe they will be sufficient. Good day.”

Watari regarded him for some time, not moving. "What's wrong?" he finally asked. Clearly something was more wrong with the boy than usual.

Euram was not expecting a question like that, and paused mid-step. The pause was short-lived as he turned with his customary smirk upon his face. “Why nothing of course. Nothing at all!”

"You aren't good at lying," Watari pointed out, taking out a packet of each kind of tea and replacing them. "Even for you this is shifty, and your sense of honor doesn't allow you to steal things. It's beneath you as a noble. So yes, I'm going to say something is wrong."

Euram’s smirk fell at the first reprimand. With his head hung low, the slight shaking of his shoulder could have been mistaken for crying, until the light chuckle could be heard. “Oh my, hehe,” he started with some false mirth, “You do not know nobles very well…however no, I had no intention of a theft…I merely thought you would not mind.”

Watari cocked his brow. Everyone and their dog knew he expressly forbid anyone from going in his kitchens without permission. Perhaps the only persons that did NOT need permission were Lo Hak when Wyatt was here and Kinnison (for obvious reasons), and the girls when they were on duty. "I know nobles well enough," he replied. "And I know you well enough to know something's wrong."

“No you don’t!” Euram all but screeched, in yet another mood swing. “I have had quite enough of everyone telling me they know me when they do not! None of you…people, could possibly understand…” He broke off to catch his breath from the outburst.

"It's not like you try and explain it to anybody," Watari pointed out calmly. "You just do like you're doing now - telling us we don't understand instead of trying to help us understand."

“Did I not just say you could not?” Euram snapped again. “Besides, I do not see how you care if you were able. Something about a ‘good to the community’ you mentioned previously.” He spun around ready to run out again, he just wanted to get back to his room and not deal with anyone else.

"You're judging again," Watari told him, not moving enough to let him out. "If you tried telling someone how you felt and explaining the reasons behind your actions, you'd be surprised how many people actually might understand."

Euram stood still realizing he was trapped, and sighed. “Stand aside,” he said, though it sounded more like a plea than an order.

"Tell me what you really came here for, and I will," Watari negotiated automatically.

Euram crossed his arms looking quite impatient, shifting his weight and fidgeting waiting for Watari to just decide to move. When that moment obvious did not come, he let out an irritated scowl before deflating. “What I was offered the other day,” he finally got out, still not able to say the words.

Watari watched him for a very long day. "You wanted poison?" he pressed. "Why?"

“Why do you think, simpleton?!” Euram blurted out still fidgeting.

Watari gave him a hard look, making it clear he would not tolerate being insulted in that way for to long, so Euram had best watch it. "Why in the world would you want poison? You don't look suicidal."

“You offered it!” Euram snapped, on the defensive and not wanting to be in the conversation at all.

Watari's eyes narrowed and he stood up to his full height, glaring down at Euram. "You much of a coward are you?" he asked him coldly. "You think killing yourself is going to solve ANYTHING in your life?"

Euram shrank away from the frightening glare. “SHUT UP!” he shouted, breathing coming faster and shorter. “You know nothing!...stop…jus..you have no…How dare you belittle…Move!”

Watari snorted. "I don't care who you are. There is nothing in this life worth killing yourself over. It's the coward's way out of dealing with their problems."

“I am done speaking to you!” Euram, stamped his foot in a tantrum, but kept his arms crossed and folding into himself for an interesting visual. “R…remove yourself from the door.”

Watari cocked a brow and did not move. He wasn't one to give in so easily to the spoiled boy's whims.

Euram did not expect Watari to obey, but he’d hoped. He wasn’t doing well as he stood there, obviously shaking and fidgeting in an attempt to hide it. He had nothing else to say to Watari, and just wanted to be able to leave and hide, he felt like he might die under that glare.

"Why would you even want to do such a thing? What's so awful you think you're better off dead?" he asked the boy, curious and maybe, deep on the inside, a little worried for him.

Euram did not want to be in the conversation, at all. He was done, completely, he looked about ready to cry from the stress of it. “Too many things to count,” he said softly, “now allow me to leave.”

Watari sighed and reached up, getting down and opening a small burlap sack. He stuck the teas in them and tossed them at Euram. "I won't give you poison to kill yourself," he said at last. "But mix those teas together and you'll go out like a light for quite a long time. It's the closest I'll let you get to my poisons."

Euram flinched away when something was thrown at him and didn’t even make an attempt to catch it. He stared at it on the floor, glancing up occasionally at Watari as he explained. After what felt like a prolonged silence Euram made a motion to move, but it wasn’t to pick up the packet. “Hmpf,” he said, straightening a bit and taking the available space to get as far away from the café as he possible could.

Watari made a mental note to go and find Sigurd and tell him about this little conversation. He had a feeling he was one of the people that might get through to Euram, because that boy was definitely unstable at the moment.
