I'm in shock.

In all my life of three unplanned pregnancies being a teenager/very early 20's I have NEVER had a comment like below directed at me.  I've been on babycenter.com December2009 board since I found out I was pregnant and today a girl in high school posted about falling asleep during a class, having issues staying awake because her pregnancy, telling ( Read more... )

:( That makes me so sad. The girl is on a board, looking for support, hoping to sort all of this out before baby arrives, and instead she gets a boot to the face. Ugh. I hope she is bolstered by others coming to her defense, and sees that there are more people rooting for her than hoping she will fail.

girlmom.com is a great resource for young parents, since their belief is that age does not make a parent, maturity does, and if you choose to, you can grow up REAL fast when you decide to become a parent.

Random story: my aunt got pregnant at 14, in the 1970s. She was a cheerleader, and the school held a assembly JUST to make an example out of her, and expel her in front of everyone. My mom and uncle both stood up and walked out with her, and none of them finished high school (but all got their GED's years later). I remember hearing this story as a kid, and watching my aunt be a super-mom to her kids, and just being shocked that people can be so cruel.

Stay way from babycenter. Seriously. It's toxic. The groups. The articles. It's just not a great place to be.

See and minus what Leah said I've had an AWESOME experience at BabyCenter (and am in that same group but don't stalk it quite like Leah ;)). It's thebump.com that I stay away from because people are mean and the navigation is confusing!

See, I agree with Bre. I've LOVED this board, it is very active and this is the first time I've seen a negative comment like this.

Someone said that this lady might be a "troll" because she just joined yesterday and has no info, etc. Which can happen on any board no matter where you are.

Why do you dislike it so much?

I get very offended when someone makes comments like that. A 17 year old girl called the doctor's office I work for who thought she was pregnant looking for a weekend appointment. We don't do weekends, so the nurse told her she had to either take off work, or leave school, or go to a planned parenthood. Then when she was off the phone I heard her and the receptionists saying things like "WHAT DOES SHE EXPECT?!" And ranting on about her home life and how stupid she is.

It offends me every time. I just keep trying to prove everyone that not all teen moms are the stereotypical drop-outs who live on welfare and have 10 more kids by the time they're 30. Its the only thing I can do to prove that if you really put your heart into something, you can succeed.
