Atheism denies nothing. Atheism is simply the absence of belief in a super natural being. To paraphrase Dawkins: As a christian (or jew, or muslim, etc) you are an atheist to any number other deities that exist today, as an atheist i just go one god further.

PS: Ruse is a philosophy professor, perhaps you'd be best reading some more scientificly-minded works first, then diving into the argumentative side of evolutionary science?
