[for tim] - the Lady and the Robin, part deux

The days grew shorter and the nights cooler. She had been human again three full months, at the turn of the season, and Morgan found herself acknowledging, however, reluctantly that her stay in this body would not likely be of short duration. She still hoped she might Ascend again in time, but it no longer seemed either certain or pressing; she had ( Read more... )

She hadn't been in her hut when Robin went by to check on her as was his habit. He prolonged his patrol to track her down and so landed softly on the compound, black and yellow cape fluttering against a silver dawn sky. He should have been home, changing for training and kissing a sleepy Bart. It didn't bother him that he wasn't and he thought perhaps it should.

Morgan's hearing tuned to the rustle of fabric sharper than sheets on a breeze. She listened without turning to look, more curious than wary when it is joined with a soft thud and vibrations under her thighs from something landing on the roof.

"Good morning, Tim," she answered, silvery amusement threading her voice. No disguise could mask the cadences of his speech or the attentiveness in it. "I am well."

At that, she opened her eyes to take in the costume, noting the cape that had been the source of the rustle, a poise too great for his years, and a mask that hid him no better than the lowered voice. "That mask suits you better than the last you wore."

It whited out his blue eyes, covered them with lenses that feed him a wealth of information every second. The shape of it, and the cut of the uniform, made him look older than he was -- not so important now that he was 18 but invaluable when he'd been barely 12 and first learning to fly. He flipped the lenses up and gave her a small smile.

"I've had more time with this one," he replied, "Plus, I can see."

It might have been a joke.

"So I see," Morgan replied with a smile, leaving it to Tim to decide whether she meant his time in his current mask or his vision, or - as was, in fact, the case - both.

Still smiling minutely, she inclined her head to the spot beside her. "Come and sit, if you wish."
