Torchwood roundup

I let myself get behind on TW, so I watched the last three episodes one after another yesterday night. I had been unspoiled for them, which is unusual for me.

2x04 - Meat
I'm sure that I'm not alone in saying that I found this episode deeply unsettling. Everything about the idea of butchering a live animal upsets me, and the cavity they showed being mined as if it were an ore deposit was disgusting.

Other than that, I'm really kind of irritated by the insistence upon Gwen's behavior here. I know she's supposed to be the emotional one, but uh, wasn't she a cop even before she came to Torchwood? Detachment is necessary even there, and yet she seems to completely fail in tasks were she's asked to do something she personally finds distasteful.

Also, sorry, I'm just not seeing the chemistry between Jack and Gwen. And by that I mean emotional chemistry, because Jack has sexual chemistry with everyone.

2x05 - Adam
I can't say enough about how much I loved the role reversal between Tosh and Owen. Also, Tosh needs to wear low-cut sweaters a lot more often. Like, say, for the rest of eternity. Not to be crude, but she has real nice breasts. Yowza.

Jack in this ep? Bleh. karaokegal was saying something about how John was overacting due to his stage training, and now that I've seen the ep, I guess I can see it, but basically I think a lot of the problem was the scripting. They wrote lines that didn't sound natural coming out of Jack's mouth. Part of this was probably because they wanted him to be acting unusual, but come on, it was just painful to watch.

2x06 - Reset
God, I love Martha. So gorgeous. And I love the way the team tries to feel out her relationship with Jack, assuming they must be 'old friends', and no one even imagining that he met her while he was gone.

Also, YES, WE GET IT TW, JACK AND IANTO ARE FUCKING LIKE RABBITS. You don't have to remind us about it every single episode, really. I like the Jack/Ianto pairing (sorry K-gal! but I am still working on that John/Jack fic for you) but it should not be a sole focus of the show.

I didn't see Owen's death coming, but I should have. After all, he agreed to go on a date with Tosh, and everyone knows that expressing a romantic interest in Tosh is a one-way ticket to deadsville (population: DEATH).
