Yeah, it is shameful. But it's even more shameful to blame certain ethnic groups for the passage of these bills. Homophobia caused these bills to pass, not black people or hispanic people, and it's divisive to think so.
I wasn't blaming anyone. I was stating facts that were reported. A large percentage of all ethnic groups are homophobic and all those ethnic groups are to blame.
I do however, regardless of percentages, find it disheartening when anyone from a minority votes to take equal rights away from other minorities.
The difficult part about seeing amazing people being elected to lead our entire nation is the realization that he / she has no control over what states decide to do. I hope it will bring you some comfort to know that while Barack is in office, this will NEVER be a national issue.
Being from the Northeast, where we have VERY little diversity, it is hard for me to imagine why folks take away the rights of others. However, I do know that small steps are what it takes in order to accomplish big things and, while Barack may not be able to overturn CA, AR or other states that voted against equality, he will be a step in the right direction for bringing a sense of acceptance to others.
I believe Barack will be a step in the right direction. I also believe he will keep any of this hatred from spreading on a national level. But so much of this country is homophobic and stuck in the dark ages, I fear that he won't be able to take this issue very far ...and progress is going to take many, many more years.

This is not exactly true...read about it here.

Either way. California EASILY elected Barack Obama president, and then voted to take many of its citizens rights away.
It's shameful.
