A friend of mine was born in Canada of a British mother and Mexican father, up until a year ago she was a citizen of no country despite living in Britian since the age of two. She couldn't get a passport from any country, each passing the buck to the other. Basically it took over six months of letters to the home office/local mp/passport authority to get recognised as a British citizen and issued a passport. Daft when she grew up here, went to school here, has paid taxes for years and even has a british mother!
