I am gonna assume it wouldnt be fair game to just show up to the list without discovering it IC through RP. But good to know, I do have a character that would care.
Thanks! I like yours too. I think mine is going to become a bit more friendly, but she was told that the Cam might just try to kill her and all her visions were of doom.
I need to get gloves for her and some fortune telling stuff. I don't want to use tarot cards, since it seems everyone does that. I have blank dice, but I want to come up with a few other things.
You could also get runes, or a shallow black bowl (works on the same basic concept as a crystal ball)though that would be trickier unless you wanted to carry water with you too. I liked the idea of tea leaves, though that does get complicated too.
Strong opinions, when not stated with a preface, are essentially taken as stated as fact. And stating facts is drawing a line. And most people have had very, very bad experiences with that in the past, thus it translates over to their characters.
I'm not saying that it is right- au contraire, the characters should be FAR more sure of their actions and willing to assume such arrogance, particularly when it comes to their faith. But I think it is the societal conditioning of the players that you are fighting there- take it from someone who took 40 years to learn how to say "In my opinion".
Yeah, they seem to think that saying "I believe in absolute truth" is the same as saying "I want to kill anyone who disagrees with me". I keep having to say, "No, no. It's perfectly fine if you disagree with me. It just happens that I believe what is true, but you are certainly free to be wrong if you want." For some reason people find that offensive :-P
They're never advocating real relative truth either. Just that convenient happy fluffy get all the comfortable truths covered.
There's no question that there should be more characters embracing an absolute truth and running with it, the problem is most of the players don't want to play that kind of character. No idea why they'd volunteer to be on an in-game theology list, though.

That said, I read it anyway, and found it amusing. Such is the curse of the iPhone; you just can't bloody look away.

But you are right. Most have the happy fluffy version of "whatever works for you".
I think my next character might be a Scientologist.
