Fandom: Lost
Pairing: None. Charlie.
Rating: G
Word Count: 197
Notes: Written during Season 1 so way old school.

Charlie staying in the caves happens by accident, really. And he figures there’s gotta be safety in staying near the doctor and fresh water. And though he smiles when Jack asks if he is okay, he will admit that he misses the beach. Misses the comfort of every one being in the same place. The strange familiarity that’s been established in less than two weeks.

But still he stays.

He stays because he needs to be there when Claire’s baby is born, needs that reassurance that even a plane crash can’t stop some things.

He likes to pretend at night, listening to forest sounds, smelling the smoke from the fire, that maybe he’s just out camping with his grandad. He’s got a chance to have the childhood he never had.

In truth, he never met his grandad. Barely remembers his dead parents.

“It’s pretty, isn’t it? Claire says. “When you forget about everything else.”

“Yeah. You forget how many stars there are when you live in cities. Out here....” He shrugs away the loss of adequate words and stares up at the same sky he’s lived under for twenty-seven years and wonders why he’s still so scared.
