I read the great gatsby this year, farenhiet 451last summer, and a brave new world this year also. I realy like them and they're all really quick reads. farenheit 451 especialy. The scarlet letter is takes along time to pick up, but is good when it dose. The name of the rose was a cool movie and recommened to me by a historian over the davinci code( he could't take that book seriously). My recomendation to you is try a book by tom wolf. He's excelent when it comes to non-fiction.
