Both are good, but I prefer the first just a tad more than the second. No specific reason, but I think it reads better that way.

I feel like the first one flows from idea to idea a little better. I really like the last paragraph (the part that's the same in both of them, so, not really helpful in the deciding thing).

I like the second better. The bit about trying to find a good starting point works well and makes it a little more complete.

I prefer the second, I think mainly because you use the "game" twice which helps cement that the game has the same ending no matter the start.
