Angel

"You can turn it on," I muttered distractedly. "We're a couple of blocks from the hotel, northeast, I think."

I caught Wesley glancing at the ladder, and moved away so he could move past me to see it if he wanted. Meanwhile, I wiped my fingers off on my pants; it didn't exactly smell very good... and for all I knew, it was corrosive, and would eat away at my fingers.

But then, wouldn't it eat away at my pants, too?

Shaking my head, I refocused on Wesley, and muttered, "The saliva's on the roof here... and it kinda leads... back the way we came."

Well, the foot prints had been good for something... but now what was I supposed to do? Check the street above, or let Wes do it? Or follow the saliva trail?

"Wes? What do we do next?" I asked, unsure. Besides, he was supposed to be the boss... I thought we should follow the trail, but it was ultimately his call... "I think we should follow the trail," I said quickly, then shut up.

Wesley

Flipping, on the flashlight, I shone it up to get a better look at the ladder. I wrinkled my nose when I saw some of the rather thick saliva clinging to the bars. This did not bode well. It couldn't be our demon, since that one only seemed to work in the higher class neighborhoods. Then again, we didn't know where he'd taken his victims from. And the idea that it could've been so close by? It angered me. Not to mention that it was a little frightening. This could be happening right undrer our nose and we'd never notice.

Pulling back, I stepped back from the ladder and glanced over at Angel. He seemed...insecure. Not a look I'd ever thought I'd see on him. I suppose what happened in Pylea might've rattled him more then I had thought. And then coming back here to find that Buffy had died during battle, probably didn't help a great deal either. Still, it was odd to see. If not a little disheartening. As much as they like to call me the boss now? I don't feel as though I am. To me, he still is...

"I think I agree," I stated, shining the light first right and then left into the tunnel. Didn't see anything but depressing brick, dirt and even dirtier water. "Which way do we go?" I shone the light back toward Angel and gave him a questioning look.
