BADLANDS
for the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside
that it ain't no sin to be glad you're alive -

Happy Holidays, heureviolet! You asked for something based around this photo, and I am here to oblige in mix form!

ALL I WANT IS AN OPPORTUNITY.
THIS IS AMERICA, KID. WHAT THE FUCK'S STOPPING YOU?

01. UPON THIS TIDAL WAVE OF YOUNG BLOOD; Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
there is danger in the night // there are things we can't control but // will we give ourselves a fright // when we become less than human?

02. SUBURBAN WAR, Arcade Fire
this town’s so strange they built it to change // and while we sleep we know the streets get rearranged // with my old friends it was so different then // before your war against the suburbs began

03. OLD FANGS, Black Mountain
when the glory arrives and takes shape over what've become // and your world closes in and the power is all that you love // is it foolish to know what you want before you've begun?

04. WHEN THE WAR ENDS, Portugal. The Man
i've got soulful days to counter evil ways - will we need it? // when the war ends, yeah // we'll wonder what it was about // and when we grow old, yeah // no one will ever miss you

05. A MORE PERFECT UNION, Titus Andronicus
so if it's time for choosing sides, and to show this dirty city how we do the jersey slide //and if it deserves a better class of criminal, then I'm'a give it to them tonight

06. ROUND AND ROUND, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti
i'm afraid, you're afraid // and we die and we live // and we're born again

07. BADLANDS, Bruce Springsteen
lights out tonight trouble in the heartland // got a head-on collision smashin' in my guts man // i'm caught in a crossfire that i don't understand // but there's one thing i know for sure: i don't give a damn

BONUS. FIVE YEARS, David Bowie
and it was cold and it rained so i felt like an actor // and i thought of Ma and i wanted to get back there // your face, your race, the way that you talk // i kiss you, you're beautiful, i want you to walk -

&.

BASICALLY? Superheroes do exist and we've got a Watchmen-style situation on our hands (without the rampant misogyny), and our darling superheroes basically win WWII single-handedly for the world, but shit hits the proverbial fan some time in the mid-1970s when super-villains pop up on the scene in the form of atomic warfare and lead to the demise of the heroes of the hour. Fast-forward to the present: America a hollowed-out dream of what it once was supposed to be. Focus in on: an old factory town smack in the middle of the country. The mantle of superheroes will be worn again, if only the apathetic denizens of this one town can rouse themselves enough to fucking care.

ALSO! I started reading A Game of Thrones, the first book in that A Song Of Ice And Fire series thing, and nghhhh OBSESSED. ALSO PART DEUX: posted part of le nano fic of doom and crossovers.
