This was such a joy to read, Michelle because you take what's good about Martin's world; the loose political set up and court intrigue, the cutthroat characters and wrap it up in your own clean, crisp prose that is so far superior to his, it's unbelievable. I really love the idea of Ned as king especially with Cersei as his wife because as political animals the way they play off against each other, their ambitions and their ideals is so great to watch and magnified to this scale? Ah, I love it. Not to mention, this just reads as a really great character study of Cersei. Great job, lady!
Augh, this comment is the best! haha Thank you so much! I am absolutely flattered -- you have me blushing, haha. For me, the best part of the world GRRM has created is definitely the political landscape and the unforgiving, morally gray characters he has as actors in this incredibly pessimistic political machine of a world. It was SO FUN though to mess around with that, and I am just so pleased you enjoyed this!

I am forever fascinated by these two, and I think this is exactly why -- for as different as the two of them are, they are so similar at the same time in their unyielding loyalty to whatever cause they have attached themselves to. And, oh Cersei! I was nervous writing her! I feel like she's a hard character to get a handle on, especially voice-wise, so once again, thank you, dude. Thank you so much!
My god this is beautiful. I love the way you've crafted it all, from that slow progression of feelings and intimacy between Ned and Cersei while the game went on, how the end is the same though the getting there was different, the children and just. Wow.
I mean, shit this is so perfect. You effortlessly take what we have in the books and twist it to this world here of yours. And everything is as it should be. I love it.
Her father buying her a crown, and them marrying in the godswood and Ned not wanting to touch her after because he won't take a woman unwilling. Cersei growing fed up with and taking what she wants. Jaime coming back for her. The children, oh my god the children. And her falling to care for him, but unable to reconcile that with her want for the throne and ambition. And all the players at the end coming in.
This is so great. I've lived on Tumblr waiting on bated breath for hearing you talk about this and then now to have it finished. Reccing this out everywhere I can for people to read.
Ahhhhhh, dude, thank you! I am so, so happy to hear you enjoyed this!
I gotta say, bouncing ideas around on tumblr and all the great fic you've been churning out definitely made writing this even more fun, haha. GOTTA LOVE NON-CANON PAIRINGS AND ALL THE AWESOME AU-POTENTIAL, LOL.
You're killing me, smalls. What you set up here is amazing and how you interwove the surrounding trials of the Seven Kingdoms to reach the same end the show did. I liked how you pointed even though everyone what got what they wanted -- mainly Robert marring Lyanna -- that it still did not mean a happy ending for these people. Your prose is amazing and cleans up Martin's sometimes overly indulgent way with words.
Part of is all, 'oh why couldn't these crazy kids make it work?' but you painted exactly why they couldn't perfectly. Them lions.
There were great little hints of canon out there too with Jon Snow, but I think my favourite thing you hinted at was Myranda's relationship with Brandon and how Cersei felt about that.
Hahaha, dude! Thank you so much! GRRM's world is a fun one to play with, that's for sure lol, but I feel like when you play in his world, you gotta abide by the ROCKS FALL, EVERYONE DIES outlook LOL. I kept going back and forth on whether I wanted this to end as it does in canon (RIP, Ned) or you know, go a happier route hahaha.
I think my favourite thing you hinted at was Myranda's relationship with Brandon and how Cersei felt about that.
That was one of my favorite parts too! I actually had grand plans to flesh that out, but this thing was already overwhelmingly long so I decided not to go to there lol. I still think it'd be fun to write from Myranda's POV, and see her parents' relationship through her eyes, and her also her relationship to Brandon, and the whole ~history repeats itself aspect of that storyline hahaha. BUT WE'LL SEE.
Thank you again, though! This totally most likely would not have even happened without our random conversations earlier this summer about how awesome an AU would be!
