part i.
Character name: Anna "Anya" Demirovna
Fandom: New World of Darkness Vampire: The Requiem OC
Species: vampire/Kindred (Toreador Daeva) + True Fae
Character powers:
Vampire powers:
Like all nWoD vampires, Anna -- as long as she has enough blood -- can instantly heal wounds not caused by fire or sunlight (or, because of her particular weaknesses, crosses or cold iron) and temporarily boost her physical abilities. Her blood also has an addictive quality, and feeding it to others will increasingly bind them to her will. (Plus she can make people into powerful thralls called ghouls, but the likelihood of that happening in Baedal is slim to none.) It's also worth noting that her bite ("Kiss") is extremely pleasurable. Finally, she has a small degree of supernatural speed.
She also is very, very good at a more specialized ability in emotional manipulation/supernatural presence of person called Majesty. When using it, she can (in order of increasing power) convince people that any performance she makes (a dance, a speech) is particularly compelling; make people want to share all their secrets with her; cause a person to adore/fall in love with her for several hours (or days, if she's lucky); summon a person to her side; and, with an effort of will, cause everyone around her to think she's so completely amazing that they'll do whatever she tells them, so long as it doesn't directly endanger themselves.
All of these effects can be resisted by the strong-willed in theory, though in practice she has a huge advantage over anyone who is not supernatural themselves. The effect is subtle enough that people tend to dismiss it as temporary infatuation once it wears off, though the genre-savvy people of Baedal might guess otherwise.
Anna also has a number of ~shiny fae powers~ that she can use when accessing her abilities as the Huntress.
She can summon a magical bow, and produce arrows of supernatural lightning, and gains an affinity with mist and clouds. Additionally, she may summon a smallish pack of dogs, which will help her hunt down a target of her choice, and no longer needs to use her blood to be fast enough to keep up with them. While Anna and her dogs are on a hunt, the laws of gravity are more of a “suggestion” - she can run up the side of building, etc.
Finally, the Huntress is adept at using Fae glamour/illusion magic (which Anna typically uses to keep herself looking human). There's a neat trick where she can make an illusory second self as a distraction, but it's one of those "only once or twice a day" powers.
part ii.
1.) Is it acceptable for your character to be mind-controlled or persuaded? How susceptible are they to mind control, hypnotism, or suggestion?
This is perfectly fine by me, as long as you give me a heads up so we can discuss the terms/extent beforehand. For all Anna's own mind-influencing abilities, when it comes to resisting them she is only slightly better off than your average mortal: her vampiric nature gives her an edge, but not much of one. That being said, she will notice if she is being supernaturally influenced in this way.
2.) Is it acceptable for your character to have their mind read? Does this include traumatic memories? What is their mind like (disturbing, orderly, joyful, surprisingly empty, etc.)? If the character has psychic walls or preventative measures against psychic interference, please explain.
As before, this is (probably) fine with me, but here it is especially important to discuss just how much you plan to uncover. Once you get past the surface of bitterness and snark, Anna's mind will seem very...defensive. Not in the sense of actually being defended -- Anna's resistance here is the same as for supernatural manipulation, but without the ability to notice it happening; rather, Anna works very hard not to think about some of the terrible things she's done (...killings) so that she can continue to blame others for her own mistakes.
When she's being all Huntress-y, if you want to have your character try any intense form of mind reading... it could be a little brain break-y. The Huntress is True Fae, so the more Huntress-y Anna is being, the more alien, brutal, and even sociopathic her mind will seem.
3.) Are thoughts mentioned in narration acceptable for a telepath to pick up?
Sure thing.
4.) What about emotions, in the case of an empath? What sort of general emotional reading would such a character receive from yours?
Ditto. She will give the impression of both stubborn passion and neediness (for respect, for love).
Once again, though, once the Huntress aspect gets added in, things shift: when she is the Huntress, Anna is pure confidence and dominance. It is inconceivable to her that she could be anything other than completely awesome.
5.) Are there any aspects of your character's mind, emotions, or memories you would like to be picked up, mentioned, or used in character? Conversely, is there anything that should not be noticed, or at least never mentioned?
Well, as a CR-advancing thing, this is always a good time to be had by all. Feel free to look through her history (you can friend me here, or look at the wiki entry once I finish it). Of particular relevance might be thoughts of her brother (hatred, remorse) when she does that gesture where she digs her nails into her palms; and a massive amount of guilt whenever family and especially parents come up.
And definitely feel free to notice -- whether or not the Huntress is currently active -- the Fae side with its alien psychology that is constantly hovering at the back of Anna's mind.
part iii.
1.) Physically speaking, what stands out about your character? Imposing size? Physical scarring? Tattoos?
Anna is...quite attractive. She's also dancer-style thin and nearly flat-chested (which was rather conveniently fashionable in the Prohibition era). She is relatively petite (5'4"), dark-haired, blue-eyed, and possessed of skin that's pale enough to seem almost unnatural. Finally, she always smells a bit of rain, like a subtle perfume.
For those of you who can see through glamours/illusions, though, things get a little freakier: lightning perpetually crackles through Anna's dark hair, and her skin has a sparkle to it (not Twilight-level, but yes, the jokes have been made). The rain smell also becomes much stronger.
2.) Is your character immune to any of the following: poisons, chemical agents, telekinetic influence, radiation, or types of illnesses?
Immune to poison and chemical agents. She cannot get radiation sickness either, but a nuke would certainly kill her Final Dead. She is immune to disease, but can spread both it and radiation to mortals she feeds on if she has been exposed.
3.) Is your character physiologically different from a human in any way? This can include their blood, skin, hair, et cetera being made up of something unusual or simply differing in construction and durability.
Yes and no. Physically, she is essentially a particularly durable dead human. This does mean that she doesn't need to breathe and, unless she expends the effort (and blood supply) to do so, doesn't have a pulse. Vampire blood, "vitae," also has some unusual properties (supernaturally potent, addictive to those who drink it), but this is more a magic thing than a different biological makeup thing.
4.) Are you amenable to having your character be harmed in any way? How far are you comfortable with injury to you character going? Does this include being fed on by vampires, willingly or unwillingly?
Being Kindred means Anna can recover easily from wounds that aren't caused by fire, sunlight, or (due to her Fae side) hand-forged iron, so anything that doesn't outright kill her is fine by me -- though planning out beforehand would be ideal. For now, no staking (which puts her in stasis) and no outright killing her, please.
5.) Is it acceptable for other characters with abilities of shapeshifting or disguise to imitate your character? Does this include ability mimicry?
Sure, if shapeshifters want to imitate her that's completely fine-- just tell me what you're up to so I don't get confused. This will not, however, include the ability to mimic any of her abilities, and I would imagine the no pulse/not needing to breathe thing can't be faked either.
part iv.
1.) Can your character's presence or aura be noticed by other characters, and how would it look/feel to them? How would it manifest to a character with no supernatural abilities, if at all?
Anna's vampire nature means she has something other Kindred refer to as a "predator's taint" -- a kind of predatory aspect that other vampires can always sense, and that frequently puts mortals ever-so-slightly on edge, even though they can't place why. To aura-readers, her aura will register as simultaneously dead and fae ("faypire," if you will).
2.) Can your character be affected by magic spells and curses?
Yep.
3.) Can your character be affected by sin and corruption, and be tempted toward expressing their darker urges (of whatever flavor)?
Oh, very much so.
4. What sort of sins is the character prone toward, and how might they best be tempted, if you are interested in such an event?
Anna has some ...issues around sex, so casual hookups are unlikely to progress beyond a certain point, though she certainly enjoys them up to that point. As for violence? That's quite possibly another story. Anna's "default" personality is quite determinedly against actually killing mortals (though she's definitely willing to play with her food), but she can lash out dramatically against those she thinks are "against her." And her Huntress side is more than eager to quite literally hunt anyone down who is foolish enough to run from her.
Of the seven deadly sins, Anna is most inclined towards Envy.
5.) Are you amenable to the character receiving prophetic visions, including as part of a plot?
SEND ME ALL YOUR METAPLOT.
part v.
1.) Is canon-puncturing or fourth-walling acceptable? We encourage people to tread extremely lightly with allowing their character to learn they are fictional.
This is probably not relevant since she's an OC, but still no.
2. Is threadjacking allowed? Under what circumstances?
Unless the thread is specified as locked, threadjacking is icing on the CR cake! However, if it's an ongoing log, please check with me and the other mun first.
3. Is it acceptable for canonmates that are updated further than yours to inform your character of events yours has not yet experienced?
N/A...yet. But should more people from Anna's particular chron show up, yes, please do torment her like that.
4. Are there triggering or upsetting topics you would like other characters to avoid mentioning to yours for the sake of continued comfort (racist words, homophobia, self-injury, etc.)?
This is a tricky issue. As a mun, I am pretty lacking in triggers and am confident in my ability to differentiate IC from OOC. However, Anna herself may be triggered by discussions of rape and sexual brutality, and may herself produce triggers related to rape, self-injury, and antisemitism.
5. Are there any additions you would like us to make to this survey?
This is an awesome survey. \o/
