It always takes me by surprise and makes me all melty when Community goes srs--why is everything related to Abed's parents so sad?! Remember early in the first season when he made that film about his mom leaving, and his dad's all "I never blamed you" and he's all "you didn't have to"? I'm, like, tearing up and screeching at my TV--"I THOUGHT THIS WAS A COMEDY!!" Even Pierce made me sad. Awww. ;___; I love that this show manages to have characters who are entirely ridiculous and yet about whom we genuinely care.
I so hope something happens with Oscar and Angela's date. That's hilarious. XD Jim and Pam are MARVELOUS and I'll never stop loving how in love they are. ♥♥♥♥ And Michael/Holly is heartbreaking--they'd better get it together in the end. :(
I love that this show manages to have characters who are entirely ridiculous and yet about whom we genuinely care. I agree! Sometimes they overdo it, I think, but the fact that they're even able to make us feel for those characters it so much more than most TV shows manage these days, and I love Community for it. Although really, they didn't have to make me so sad. IT WAS A CHRISTMAS EPISODE, WHYYY.
Oh god, Oscar/Angela's date should happen - except I feel bad for Angela, because the poor woman keeps having the worst love life. Michael/Holly must happen, and I can't wait to see it, but I wish they didn't have to bum us out like this first!
That's too bad! I do think people were expecting something more conventional and something a lot funnier, so I understand your not being able to get into it at all. I hope you try it again soon, though.
Last night's Office was really, REALLY good. I was kind of blown away. And I had no idea that it was going to be an hour, so when it hit the 9:35 mark and it was still on I was pleasantly surprised. =D The Jim and Pam gift exchange... oh, my! I haven't smiled like that in a while. The way Jim was just SPEECHLESS. GYAHHHHHH. Perfect. <3
Was it not?! My reaction to it wasn't even the usual "wow, hey, that was good" - it was more like "wait, what? how consistently, fantastically good is this?!" I adored it. And AGH YES, JIM/PAM. They are wonderful and make me feel warm and sappy.
It took me awhile to get invested in this week's Community because I really just missed the actors' faces. I think it's an episode I'll like more upon re-watch, because I really did love how they focused on the found family aspect of the group dynamic.
FRINGE. So, so great. I really have nothing to add to your thoughts because they are perfect and brilliant. Your observations on Olivia (ANNA TORV'S FACE GODDAMN) are so spot-on. The way they played out the tragedy of the entire situation was magnificent.
The actors' faces were definitely missed (and it takes an episode like this to realise just how much they bring to the show, in terms of their facial expressions and background work), but I really just loved how they threw themselves into that genre, and that story, and went completely all-out. It was ambitious, and I think it paid off. I enjoyed it a lot. I hope you do too!
Fringe really is magnificent; there's no other way to describe it. And I adore how consistently they go for the emotion on this show. Ugh, I love it.
Anna Torv is wondrous and unbelievable, and I adore the chance to get to watch her every week. And good luck with the rewatch! I feel like I need to wish you luck with gathering your emotional strength, hee.
