So Cathy & I went to the gym yesterday. Then I set my alarm for 6:30, and we went this morning before she went to work. Then I took one step on the treadmill and went OW. And I'm still saying OW. Guess who's got shin splints? And guess who has completely forgotten how to stretch so as to not get shin splints? Did I say OW? Because seriously, OW ( Read more... )

Never feel bad about starting at the lowest weight on the machines. You will make fast progress - leaps and bounds - before you know it.

Strong is where you go. Day by day you do little things, and flexibility and endurance and strength grow. Go you! And keep going!

Yep, to the above. Do not stress about your starting point. Stay consistent over time and it will improve. And stretch you calves. Baby cows need yoga. Just kidding, overly tight calves are one of the possible causes of shin splints. Stretching the calves is a easy one to try. 1 leg at a time, 30-60 seconds, once in am, once in pm, once after exercise. See if that helps.
