We really need a wheelchair ramp at my mom's. I called a place that does modular steel removeable ramps and got a free estimate. O$$M$$G$$. There is absolutely no way my mom would go for the amount of $$ it is. So now I have to figure out another plan, and frankly, I am out of ideas. It's a 21" rise... not exactly something you can slap a board

Have you tried using Angie's List to find a local contractor/handyman to build one? I bet time + materials would be not too cost prohibative.
