Yesterday morning I went to Fred Meyer with my mom. While she went to shop for vegetables and whatnot, I went over to the book section and searched for the young adult novels. To my dismay, I discovered that all they had in said YA section was Twilight. (For the record, I despise Twilight. I could go into a long rant on why I think the series blows ( Read more... )

I hate Twilight with a passion because I think it doesn't deserve as much of a fandom as it has, and that all of it's fans are rather shallow. But, I'd love to hear your reasons, if not for the fact I can say " I AGREE" to all of them, but also because I can have some material to defend my position of hatred when I have to explain why I will never, ever be convinced to go see those wretched movies!

Alright, you asked for it! *rolls up sleeves*

To start off, Bella and Edward are shallow and annoying characters with absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Bella is whiny, stupid, and has practically NO personality outside of her omg tru wub for Edward. I swear, all she does the entire series is go on and on about how incredibly beautiful Eddikins is. It feels more like she's obsessed with him rather than in love with him. She's a total prick to everyone who isn't a vampire or a werewolf, because they're just not special enough for her, apparently. Supposedly she's not that pretty, yet the moment she arrives in Forks all the boys in her entire school want her bod. Even the Cullens, who have been put through tons of crap thanks to her, simply love her. Mary Sue much ( ... )

*takes this post and forwards it to six other people* =DD Thank you; I now have something substantial to say when I'm hard pressed for why I don't like the books! I've always just settled with the reason that they seem to focus more on inducing fanspasms rather than establishing quality content, which you've pretty accurately proved! And, wow, I've never gone through one of them in their entirety, so I didn't know that there were long sections of Edward praising abundant. That's... pretty shallow and irrelevant information. >.> And what you say about the RABID behaviour of its fandom is true. An opinion is one thing, but I, too, hold back on proclaiming my hate for the series just because the fans of it are actually terrifying. It almost seems like they know there's not much substance to their obsession so if they hear any criticism, their book worship is going to crumble and they'll be left torn. So if they shut up dissenters before they can explain their dislike, they're preventing the corruption of their fandom. A bit of a radical ( ... )

THIS. This is the exact feeling I get.
