Brokeback Mutants

Since I did not like Brokeback Mountain, I'm a bit reluctant to call First Class Brokeback Mutants. I was not bored for one second, after all, whereas Brokeback Mountain... yeah. But still. It's so perfect a jokey title that I can't resist it, actually ( Read more... )

Charles (to Moira, when Erik single-handedly attacks the Soviet base): "I'm sorry, but I can't leave him."

Erik: "I want you by my side. We're brothers, you and I."

Charles saving Erik from drowning! Erik bodily protecting Charles from tumbling to death in the jet as it crashed!

I think everybody involved is more than aware of how much in love they are. :D

As someone who's been watching everything Fassbender and McAvoy have been in since Hex and Children of Dune/Shameless, respectively, it's kind of hilarious to see them as full blown, Marvel superheroes, while still being as unapologetically goofy as they are.

...LJ, I hate you for not giving me notifs.

But yes! The love story was just everywhere. In the script and in the performances. Did you see that panel they did, a bunch of them, where the two of them touch upon that subject?

I must say that I've followed McAvoy's career much more than Fassbender's. I like him, but I don't adore him the way I do McAvoy. There's something about his delivery that always nails it, and I've been remiss in my career-following of late, so it had been a while since I heard him. Just listening to the way he delivers his lines, it was such a "man I adore him" slap to the face kind of thing.

This is my favorite X-Movie now. I've missed a lot of the comics developments but I really loved what they did with the stories here. Plus the slashy bromance.

Moira was weak, mostly for reasons of nobody can compete with the slash, but she was better than Mystique or (particularly) Emma. The biggest problem with the ladies was that those clothes were not 1962 and it was all to get the gals in short skirts. Also Mystique looked different with the prosthetics on and it made it hard for me to get that she was the same person. Still love Rose Byrne and Jennifer Lawrence wasn't half bad. (And was "Angel" really sort of Pixie or was that just me?)

I didn't know Kevin Bacon was Shaw but he was great and I loved what they did with him.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, LJ was playing withhold-the-notifs again.

I've never really followed X-Men, though through playing in X-Men comms or in comms with X-Men characters I've come to learn a lot about what I didn't follow. ;) I honestly don't mind them changing stuff if it makes sense. But I did not see the point of calling Moira Moira, or of Angel. ...the wings were kinda Pixie-ish? The spitting wasn't. ;)

I thought the Mystique prosthetics looked terrible on that girl, really. Whereas Romjin had been hot as hell in them back in the first movies. So, you know, something was wrong there. Mystique is supposed to be hot and then some.

No worries, LJ is like that.

The Mystique prosthetics changed the shape of the actress' face to the point of unrecognizeablity. I could buy Jennifer Lawrence as Rebecca Romjin in "normal" face, but not in the blue.
