Legend of the Seeker vs. Wizard's First Rule

Ok, so I watched the show before I read the books. This is entirely out of character for me because I usually go the other route, assuming that the books would naturally be better than the television/movie adaption. Problem was I saw a clip from the show featuring Cara in her red leather glory and became a very shallow and hormonal teenager once ( Read more... )

Fanfic is almost always better than canon :D

Honestly, if I read this book before watching the show I probably would have shrugged the show off. I know a lot of fans of the books find the first three books the best of the bunch and if that's the case, I really have no inclination to read after the third book.

His imagination is awesome, his writing is sub par.

Okay, just skimmed REALLY quick (cause I have no time :/) but this stood out:

Kahlan spends the entire book doing two things:
1) Crying

O.M.G YES!!! O.O The whole time it's "sob" this and "tears" that. Guh. It's so irritating.

I don't know if you mentioned this, but they totally f^^ked with Giller in the show. They made him Darken Rahl's lapdog, and they gave Giller's part to Zedd. :/ I was disapointed 'cause I really liked book!Giller.

(Raina and Berdine Icon just cause they totally made Blood of the Fold and Temple of the Winds :D)

I love how in the book Kahlan makes an off hand comment about how before she passed the wall she hardly ever cried in her life. You really have to take it at face value because throughout the book you realise she's quite the pro at it. Granted, Richard cries a lot himself lol She didnt kick ass. Not once :(

I did mention Giller. The show turned him into the one dimensional evil guy (the way the book made Darken Rahl the one dimensional evil guy). I hated that. Book!Giller actually made me tear up. It completely broke my heart when the doll stopped talking. In the show, the doll just creeped me out lol In that way, I am disappointed with the show. Very shallow of them to turn a horrific situation and make it funny, completely wiping out a sympathetic character in the process.

But then.... we wouldnt have Kahlan wearing Mord-Sith armour and jerking around a leashed Richard would we? Hmmmm decisions, decisions.....

I cant wait to meet Berdine and Raina :D

Okay, cool. And yeah, the doll totally creeped me out in the show too. And the way they had Zedd whispering to it was just weird. And, yes, I totally teared up when Sara didn't respond :(

Hmmmm decisions, decisions..... HA! I totally agree. It's give and take between the book and the show. :P

If this Cara displeases me as Kahlan and Richard has... I don't think you'll be disapointed. :D She's pretty similar to the show, I think. Badass and all duty, but also with the snarkiness that we love so much.

At first I didn't like Berdine and Raina at all. :/ I just didn't like the way Goodkind sort of introduced them, and there is a scene with Berdine and Richard that I'm still not sure about at all..but also at the same time, the way the Goodkind compares somethings is really good (is trying to do this without spoiling :P). But by the end of it I adored them so much!! :D

Hope you keep reading!

Okay.. It's been a while, and I think I remember the scene your talking about. However I quickly forgot that train wreck as soon as I tunnel vision to the breasts part. I was like "Omg boobs... boobs... boobs... boobs..."

And thus wiped the memory from my mind of how Berdine and Raina were introduced.

I've only watched one episode of the show, before I realized I couldn't watch it anymore because the characters I knew from the book were soooo different from the characters on the show. (P.S. I have a love for the Mord-Sith - Denna, Cara, Raina, Berdine, etc. I agree, Blood of the Fold was the best, but Wizard's First Rule was good, too ( ... )

He is definitely very methodical with his world. But I think it disrupts the flow rather badly. These long pauses where Zedd lectures or Richard deduces things at great length are so artificial... I mean it could be that Richard understands a small part of something, then slowly learns about it.... no. He gets his "Eureka!" face and then rambles on about it forever. It kills me ( ... )

they do cry alot all of em its a little annoying. However get to uhh *grabs stacks of books* I think its stone of tears Kahlan kicks serious ass, and (spoilers removed about white and horses and nekkidness and general holy fuck I'm reading that again) Also the further into the series you go the more people make fun of Richard for being so great and he's cool with it. And my chain of thought derailed so i'll go ramble/read somewhere else now bye

She kicks ass in this book? You mean other than the random additions to her Con Dar abilities? She actually fights someone, not just makes a grab for them? Hmmm I look forward to this.

Well... good on the author for realising just how much of a Gary Stu Richard is... but I would rather Richard be given more dimensions and weaknesses than simply have people (his allies and friends Im sure) tease him about being perfect.

My apologies, I just hate the Mary Sue/Gary Stu template. It aggravates me lol

But I shall push on with the books, see where it'll get me.

Why does everyone stop a few books in? Does it drag on that badly?
