My day’s off to another nauseating start

Nov 04, 2004 11:26

This morning, a coworker sent me an e-mail chock full of pictures of greased-down buff “cowboys”. You know the ones. This e-mail (with a subject line of “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy”) was intended to brighten my day and, I don’t know, get my juices flowing. It did not ( Read more... )

i think it's safe to say that there's nothing wrong with you. Unless, of course, there's something wrong with me as well. I'm under the impression women are not visually stimulated in the same way as men. But it's probably men who take these photos, men who are in charge of Playgirl or whatever, who expect women to like this stuff as much as they like it. I'd say that the main audience loving these photos would be gay men. And hell, give me a skinny indie rock boy any day....(which reminds me, there's some newish porn where the target audience is women in their 20s and 30s, tattooed, slim, scruffy punk rock boys, all hot and nekkid. I can't remember the name, but it's interesting that someone thought of us when they made their porn. Kind of a Suicide Girls for women)

But it's not just gay guys whose mouths water when looking at these pics. What about the lady who sent this to me? What about those groups of screaming ladies who love to stuff dollar bills down Bruno's g-string? On 2nd thought, that doesn't sound so bad to me, probably b/c I like the idea of the guy being objectified sometimes. But that's not lust. It's vindication. Or maybe cynicism.

oh my damn, christy (and shannon)! I'm so with you on this. I hate big, buff males with shiny bodies. They just look stupid (intellectually), and they also look like predators searching for objects with two legs and a hole. But just in general, when I see buff guys walking around campus, I always think "hmmm... yuck." And then I feel bad, because they've probably worked oh so hard to drink whey/protein and lift tons weights only to evoke a feeling of disgust from their targets.

Okay, I feel bad for posting this because I was very stereotypical. Maybe it's college boys that bother me. stereotypical again.

You've inspired to write a journal entry on this in the future. It's a very prominent item on my list of qualms.

Haha. I guess this means I won't see a male stripper at any of our birthday parties any time soon!

actually, i'm up for seeing male strippers -- i think it would give me a great laugh.

strippers = good, wholesome entertainment

i also agree with you about the objectification thing.
