ADAM and EVA (edited 04/30/11)

I edited my headcanon post with a lot more of my thoughts, much of it inspired by extra commentary translation done by Dai. <3

But I was requested to go into my ideas on Ocelot and EVA's relationship, which got kind of long, so I'm putting it in a separate post here:

Enemies during MGS3, no contact at all until she joined The Patriots, etc. My only note before then is that I don't think he ever holds it against her for killing his partner (the original EVA). He started taking advantage of her new role as soon as he realized she took it.

Ocelot never seems to harbor any strong jealousy towards EVA for being closer to Big Boss than him... I think he's more the kind of person who wouldn't mind sharing as long as it doesn't diminish what he can get for himself.

But they still have a sort of rivalry going on. I don't think they ever stop teasing each other... without being behind her meek Tatyana disguise, I'm sure she had all sorts of attitude to show him. He's a rude little boob-grabbing bastard and she has a lot to tease him for, there's going to be some magnetized friction.

I'd define everyone in the group as friends, but Big Boss leaving is what tested it, and Ocelot never had much use for people who haven't proven themselves in his eyes. She was the only one who respected Big Boss in a similar way, so they became secret conspirators. Her respect for Big Boss made her deserving of his need for help in his plans. I think it was about them wanting to support Big Boss, in opposition to Zero and the others wanting to replace him. Sure, Ocelot and EVA were into the cloning project at the beginning, but not for that reason.

Their relationship since then was always "about" Big Boss. But Ocelot is a man who craves attention, and being without Big Boss (the man he wanted attention from most) for so long had to make him lonely. She might have been lonely too, especially if she wasn't allowed to raise her twins. But they had each other, which was something. So their friendship grew much stronger as it was pretty much all they had after Big Boss left, even if their purpose was always about him. I'm sure they eventually dialed down the rivalry and became really good friends. Before they openly left The Patriots, they probably had plenty of time for things like ~*shopping trips*~ and such (he likes clothes). I think she was the only person he was being honest about anything with. Did they sleep together? In the void left behind by Big Boss's absence, possibly. I don't think either of them would abstain for decades, and I think both of them view sex with a pretty casual attitude.

As their plans against The Patriots came to a head, I think they started plotting their own deaths together as a finish. Maybe they still hadn't reconciled things with Big Boss... if Big Boss were still mad at them before Snake burned him, that would make more sense as to why they'd want to die before seeing him again after all that work reviving him, to make up for it. (Maybe he thought they were still supporting The Patriots). So they scripted those dramatic deaths they had... and wrote their weird SHADOWS BEING ERASED BY LIGHT speeches together too.

EDIT: Also, maybe there was a little connection concerning The Boss. What with Ocelot being her son and kinda looking like her... "MMM BOSS"

EDITEDIT: However, in one of the Kojima-approved MGS4 handbooks it said she really had no idea Ocelot was faking Liquid's possession at that time. So the conclusion from that was that he still couldn't put all his faith in her even though they had been close. She's no Big Boss, after all... she hadn't reached a level above the rest of humanity in Ocelot's eyes like he had. He still used her and predicted her, knowing what would happen with his far-seeing vision for the intricacies of plans. He knows human reaction better than anyone (hence why getting thrown off by Big Boss made him idolize him), and he knew that lying to Big Mama would work. But it was selfless; he was putting all the weight on his own shoulders.
