Home again
Well, we're back in town for a few days.
We got up and moved ourselves out of the Palace. We checked our traps but have had no more activity there...so we shut them down. We called Tim to let him know and he told us there was a black bear in a trap at a house that was on our way home and he wanted us to pick it up. So...we did. Big male black bear that was majorly aggressive...had broken into structures on someone's property to the point that it scratched on their window screens! YIKES!!
So, we took him back to Tim's after lecturing the homeowner for a bit and giving her some alternatives to feeding the birds and providing seeds for the bears as a result...she was really very nice. We drugged the bear...and re-drugged him as he kept fighting the drug...I ended up giving him four different doses of Telazol before he went down enough that we could put a tag in his hear...and even then he was still able to move his head:
We then talked with Tim and Carol for a bit as they were heading out to Spokane, WA to see Neil Diamond and we are watching their kids and house while they're gone. THen we took the bear to release him way down along a reservoir where he'll hopefully not run into any more trouble...although black bear hunting starts tomorrow...so I have no doubt where he'll end up...but, considering this bear's actions...that's probably the best thing for him.
We came back home and are getting caught up on emails and mail and laundry. We'll be here until Saturday...then we go back up and continue to try and capture that elusive female grizzly bear!!
D and I had a looooong talk last night and may be pulling the plug on New Zealand as our honeymoon this year. We're kinda streched for finances and the honeymoon would be on quite a tight and tiny budget and I just didn't want it that way. I want us to be able to live it up on our official honeymoon...so, we'll save it for a time when we may have more money to put into it...stay in nicer hotels and eat fancier meals. Instead, we will probably go to Cozumel for a week as we got a week there as a wedding gift to us...a condo owned by some friends. We'll dedicate this winter to getting D's pictures online and selling to try and get some income from them. We're still toying with what to do for Christmas...both of us need to spend it with our families...but we also want to spend it together...dilemmas of life, eh?
