So, D and I have officially decided to list our house. Between the uncontrolled development of our little valley and the road that is proposed to come across our property and now there is a house being built right in our line of view of the mountains, we are done with Heber City. We haven’t put it on the market just yet because there are some things happening in the next month that will keep us from being able to get the house ready. But, we did start looking at property in other areas…just to get an idea of what’s out there.
One property that D found was about an hour and a half east of where we currently live…closer to the ranch I love so much. Anyway, he found a property with 400 acres that a guy built this little 2 bedroom, one bath house on. It is an absolute steal of a property…too good to be true…so we decided to take a road trip and check it out. We drove out and met the real estate agent and she took us up to the property. It was pretty cool, the acreage is mostly behind the house and, due to the fact that it’s hard to get mineral rights on your own property, there is an oil well on the property, but that is sort of a benefit because the oil company then keeps the roads maintained. And there are a few miles of dirt roads to travel to get to the property.
Anyway, this guy built this unique little two bedroom one bath home. It’s quaint and he put a lot of himself into the making of it. JUST above the existing house is a great spot for a larger house. So our thought is that we could stay in the smaller house and build a bigger house above it.
Some views of the house outside and inside:
This is the upstairs room, which would be a great office for D:
We liked the property, it’s got some nice views, but there is a house about a quarter mile south of the existing house that is in the line of view that has quite the junk pile going. That doesn’t bother me as much as it bothers D. There’s a lot of wildlife and I love the geography, but it’s not something that we felt like we were going to really miss if it sold before we could buy it…and we’d have to wait until we sell our house to buy anything else. But it’s on the table. I’m glad we went and looked at it, but there could certainly be something better out there that we could get.
Some views of the property:
The view looking west from the front of the house:
The view looking south from the house:
This is a view west from the lower part of the property, a short hike from the house. The farthest ridge back is the upper part of the property...the property line is at the top of the cliff:
We also drove up to the northern area of the property and D shot this picture looking south...the house is just over the ridge in the middle of the picture...so the property is a lot of canyons and cliffs:
This is a google earth map of the property in general...it's hard to see the topography in the picture, but you can see an old oil well pad at the top of the picture, and can just barely see the existing oil well pad above the house.
The only thing is, for 400 acres and a little house…it’s an amazing price!!! We’ll see how it all plays out. The road of life has some interesting turns that you can’t see coming.
Parting shot...just cuz I can't post an entry without a picture of these two!
