sea of reeds

This CD is amazing. It features the Accordion Tribe, which includes one of my favorite accordionists, Guy Klucevsek. I especially like the combination reeds/weird guttural singing on "Unikko". Maybe I should check out more of Maria Kalaniemi.

and I like one of the comments in the IMDB page for the documentary about this group, which begins, "To tell you the truth, we all agreed to meet and watch Hotel Rwanda... except that I showed up at the wrong cinema, bought the wrong ticket and didn't notice a thing until the movie actually started... I almost left. But then (having payed € 6,00 to go inside), I decided to give it a shot. It turns out that the film was not that bad, really!"

Huh. I just saw this post (reading your LJ for the first time since I was in Pittsburgh), and funny thing, I know Guy Klucevsek. He founded an ensemble, Relache, of which I was the executive director for a year in 2006-07.

And Jason Webley just friended me on Facebook.

Small world.

small world, and I am very jealous about Jason, but maybe it's not entirely coincidental about Guy, because I first found out about his music from the CLP, and the size of their collection of his music is probably related to the fact that he's local. Actually, I met Guy this New Year's Eve, at the Oil City "First Night" festival. I also managed to get a copy of the Accordion Tribe DVD a few days after that, and it was amazing -- you should see it if you haven't already ( ... )
