Each year, on the day of the Farringham School Battle, Joan Redfern attends a gathering at the village church. It's quite large the first year, nearly everyone who survived the battle sharing remembrances of that night, of those who died.
Then war comes, and remembering is less important than fighting and surviving.
Joan still remembers each year, with anyone she can gather. They remember and pray, and each year, Joan lights a candle for John Smith. She watches it until it burns down to nothing, and prays that God grand John a soul separate from the Doctor's, so they might one day be reunited in Heaven.
