Summary: The longest night of Noah Bennet's life is the night after he discovers that Claire can heal.
On a bright and sunny day, Noah Bennet notices that his daughter, his Claire, heals faster than any normal human. He keeps a neutral expression frozen on his face, plays the role of normal father and normal husband while his heart and mind race.
He knows what he's supposed to do. He's supposed to go to work the next day, and tell Thompson that Claire has manifested an ability. Not my little girl can't be hurt (which, in a saner world, would have been a relief), but the subject has presented this characteristic. Your instructions, sir?
After Sandra falls asleep, Noah stays awake all night, looking at the ceiling. He thinks about everything he's done for the Company, everything he's given up for the Company, all the faith he's put in the Company, about how his life is the Company. He thinks about how risky it would be to defy the Company, how much it would endanger Sandra and Lyle. He thinks about Claire.
Hours pass like eternities, until Noah finds himself watching his clock as 5:59 finally becomes 6:00 and the alarm goes off.
He plays the role of normal husband and normal father through breakfast, then the role of normal businessman as he leaves for work. He keeps that mask on until he walks into Thompson's office, and starts playing the role of model Company member.
He's made his choice.
