I know - I rarely post here and even more rarely write-fic, but I'm doing this meme anyway. It's a 30 questions/Question a day writing meme, but I'm doing it all now. I need the distraction.
1 - How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?
I first got involved in writing fanfic because I started *reading* fanfic, and realized that it looked like a lot of fun. I could make characters do what I wanted! The first fic I wrote was Star Trek and what pulled me in was - Spock torture ;-) He's good for torture.
2 - Name the fandoms you've written in, and how much you've written in that fandom, and if you still write in it. Star Trek, Harry Potter, X-men, Doctor Who, and Criminal Minds are all things I've written more than a tiny bit for - and I don't actively write in any of them much, at least right now. I do still RP in a lot of them, though. ...All of them, actually.
3 - For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favorite characters to write?
Riker, Remus, Scott, Jack, and Hotch.
4 - Do you have a "muse" character, that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn't about them? Who are they, and why did that character became your muse? Jack. It's always Jack for me, and I suspect it always will be.
5 - If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it? Nope. I mean sure, characters have opinions but who I'm writing is who I'm writing. There's usually not room for someone else in the fic.
6 - When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters? Male, hands down.
7 - Have you ever had a fic change your opinion of a character? Nope, never. I've learned more about them, but had my opinions drastically changed? Nope.
8 - Do you write OCs? And if so, what do you do to make certain they're not Mary Sues, and if not, explain your thoughts on OCs. I don't bother making my OCs NOT Sues/Stues, because they're there to fill a roll and highlight something about the canon character I'm actually trying to tell a story about. There's no way, under those circumstances, that they can take over. I don't write, or read, where the story is being told about an OC. I'm just not interested - I read fanfic to read canon characters.
9 - Pairings - For each of the fandoms from day two, what are your three favorite pairings to write?
Star Trek: Spock/McCoy, Riker/Chakotay, Janeway/Picard.
Harry Potter: Snape/Harry, Remus/Snape, Remus/Sirius
Doctor Who: Jack/Nine, Jack/Ten, Jack/Five.
Criminal Minds: Hotch/Reid, Hotch/Rossi, Hotch/Blackwolf.
10 - Pairings - Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could? I have written pairings I don't much like, yes. I have never found I *couldn't* write a pairing I like, though. I mean - if I like it, I can see how it works, right?
11 - Genre - do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most? Character studies, porn, slash. And that's pretty much what I write.
12 - Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" fic of a favorite book or movie but set in a different fandom? No.
13 - Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material? It has, and I hate it. I prefer canon, thanks, and to come up with my own fanon. When fandom influences me, I take several large steps back.
14 - Ratings - how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead? I write NC-17 more often than not, but yeah, I've had 'porn' suddenly turn into Not Porn, when the porn is no longer necessary for the point.
15 - Warnings - What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a fic? I warn for rape/non-con, character death and kink. The strangest warning I've given? Um. Sounding, I guess?
16 - Summaries - Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them? I hate summaries. By the time I have a pairing, a rating, and warnings, I feel like I've already told you what's going to happen in the danged thing. I use them, but I don't like them. I come up with them after ripping my hair out and whinging a lot.
17 - Titles - Are they the bane of your existence, or the easiest part of the fic? Also, if you do chaptered fic, do you give each chapter a title, or not? Easiest part of my fic, and I title chapters. Songs/song lyrics are my friend - but usually I've got the title before I've got the story.
18 - Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from? Music, hands down.
,b>19 - When you have bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use? If I'm going to write it, I write it immediately. Usually, I'm not going to bother.
20 -Do you ever get bunnied from other people's stories or art in the same fandom? Nope. If I read it, I consider that bunny/story told. It's part of why I don't read fic, in fandoms I'm actively writing in (or want to be active writing in).
21 - Sequels - Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels? I have, and I enjoyed them. I did it because I could, because memes asked me to, or it was just fun. I feel like they're fun.
22 - Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not? I have, and my favorite was with the fest I wrote Naked for - it was the first time I wrote something for Who, and Who in general was an awesome fandom experience.
23 - When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site? I post to my writing journal -and only my writing journal. I post links to fic comms. I do not post to archives (Ao3 or other). Ever.
24 - Betaing - How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story? Two or three. Horror stories? Well, there was the woman who yelled at me for telling her that this : "I love you." He said. wasn't correct. Otherwise? Not really.
25 - Music - Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet? Music is absolutely manadatory for me to be able to write.
26 - What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to research for a fic? Poisonous Australian spiders.
27 - Where is your favorite place to write, and do you write by hand or on the computer? In front of the computer, always. At home, always. At a DESK, always.
28 - Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together, or having an artist work on a piece about your fic? I've had an artist make work after the fact, but I've never cowritten outside RP - and I'd love to.
29 - What is your current project or projects? Right now? Nothing. I've got some RP on the go, as always, but nothing meant for posting.
30 - Do you have a favorite fic you've written? What makes it your favorite? And don't forget to give us a link!
My favorite fic, upon doing some rereading is
The Walk, but I'm in love (deeply) with Jack/himeself and Young!Jack right now, so.
