Fandom vs. The Real World- 2nd Period- Class #2

Sep 08, 2009 06:12

There had totes been an E-mail sent to the students telling them to meet in the shooting range today. Which was why Aeryn greeted her class there, see. It would be appreciated if people would take note of the rules on the door:

SAFETY RULES:

· TREAT ALL GUNS AS IF THEY WERE LOADED

· KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL READY TO FIRE

· BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT’S BEYOND

· ALWAYS WEAR HEARING AND EYE PROTECTION

· NEVER USE ALCOHOL OR DRUGS BEFORE OR WHILE SHOOTING.

· CHECK IN ALL WEAPONS BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE RANGE

"Last wee the topic of weapons came up, and I think now is as good as any time to talk about those," she began. "When I first arrived here, we were able to carry our weapons with us. This changed not too long after which I don't understand, but I believe it was because this is a school and they generally frown on students using things that can kill other students on school property." Because they might do things like shoot certain future time agents in the ass, Aeryn. "At any rate, people come here from militaristic backgrounds, or violent worlds, and so weapons are a presence. We just trust that those that carry them know how to use them responsibility. Then again, some people might be on the more pacifistic side of things," said Aeryn, and wow did she not understand how anyone could think that way, "and we need to recognize that some might not be comfortable with you being armed. Which is fine. But you do also realize that things do invade here. You might have to find a weapon with which to defend yourself sometime, or you might need to count on someone armed for assistance.

"As for how this relates to the real world, well. They don't like you to carry them there. There are laws about concealed weapons, but people get very upset if you carry an unconcealed weapon, so I'm not sure what they want you to do there. People on Earth- at least this part of it- don't much like them. If you carry them, you have to be very careful with how you hide them on your person. Jackets are good for this. Same with boots. There are more creative ways as well, but I'm starting you off easy. Just make sure that you're aware that going through any sort of security checkpoint covered in weapons will get you in a lot of trouble."

You did not want to see Aeryn try and go through airport security. You just didn't.

"This is what we're going to be doing today. We have some weapons here. They're all guns, as most of you call them, and they're basically easy to handle You point and shoot." She went through a demonstration of how to shoot the gun at the target (and let it be know that that little paper target got blown right through its little paper head). "And for those of you who may be used to using something that fires plasma or pulse beams, these sorts of weapons can have some kickback, so be very careful, and be sure to obey the rules. If by chance there is anyone who is seriously against handling a weapon," and again, she had no idea why one would, but, "then I want you to go over to that area there and practice hiding water pistols on your person. And know that while I don't mind you bowing out f an activity because you're opposed to it, but if I think you're just trying to get out of doing something because you don't want to I will make you run laps."
