Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

May 04, 2012 23:36

When the planning for the new semester had started, no one had really noticed that the welcome picnic would coincide with Cinco de Mayo. When the food arrived and all of it, including the desserts, had somehow ended up as a variety of Mexican food, well, it was a little too late to change anything ( Read more... )

George had been at boarding school before and shared with Jack before that, so unlike some, he did not find this such an unusual concept.

Sharing with a girl... That was more unusual.

"Excuse me? Is there a Lady Dorothy here?" Sorry Ace, he was a traditionalist. And still not certain on the social conventions of this world. He'd work on that, eventually.

...How do you glare at somebody for calling you by a name you hate when they tag Lady onto the start of it? Ace was trying to figure that out, but she couldn't quite manage it, and had to settle for, "Don't call me that; my name's Ace," which sounded gruff enough, but weird when you paired it with a small, confused smile.

"And there's not many people would call me a lady, neither."

"Sorry." There was a tinge of apology in his returned smile. "Ace. I wasn't sure which of the names I should use." Now he did. He might also have to break certain habits, like referring to people as ladies. It seemed as if it were less than normal around here.

"I'm George. I believe I'm your new roommate."

well, that killed the smile, or at least transformed it into one a lot more incredulous. "Get out. Come on pull the other one; it's got bells on."

George blinked, clearly trying to put all that together. "Pull the other what?" he asked, completely puzzled.

This was probably going to happen a lot with these two.

"The other leg." Ace rolled her eyes. "They've not only got a room ready for me, they stuck a bloke in it with me?" Though, she had to remind herself, it was 2012 here. That might explain the second bit, at least, if not the first.

"Should they not have?" he checked, a hint of uncertainty creeping in. "If it's problematic, I'm certain we could change it..."

"No," Ace said quickly, because she wasn't going to look like some middle-grader, here. If that's what boarding schools were like in this century -- or let's face it, ever; not like she'd ever been likely to attend one back home -- she'd roll with it. "S'just weird; didn't expect they'd be so...progressive, I guess. Then again, I didn't even expect to be here."
