Creative Writing--So Simple Even You Can Do It! (Probably)

"So, cliches," Navaan said once class began. "They're pretty much language that's been beaten dead as a door nail. You want to avoid 'em like the plague and thick outside of the box when it comes to writing out your own prose. Sure, they explain everything you want them to, but it's pretty much going for the low-hanging fruit. Like fish in the sea ( Read more... )

Choose one (or more) of the cliches below and come up with creative descriptions that get the same meaning across.

As old as the hills
Fit as a fiddle
Without a care in the world
A diamond in the rough
Brave as a lion
Weak as a kitten

Same thing, but with more difficult cliches!

Cat got your tongue?
Fall head over heels
Read between the lines
Laughter is the best medicine
Waking up on the wrong side of the bed
That and a quarter will get you a cup of coffee
Sent a shiver down my spine
Gut wrenching pain
Heart-stopping fear
I love you more than life itself
And they all lived happily ever after
We're not laughing at you were laughing with you
The quiet before the storm

Anders' list of cliches included a lot of Ferelden phrases that mentioned Andraste or the Maker. (Really, he hadn't realized until he came to Fandom how much religion crept into every single conversation at home.)

He couldn't include Andraste's flaming knickers, though. Fun as it was to say, it wasn't quite a cliche.
