Lawn of the Dorms | Late, Late, Late Night (2am EST)

Jun 11, 2009 14:54

It was a quiet night. Just after midnight, a steady rain had started falling, drenching the island quickly and showing no sign of slowing. A few hours later, at 2am, the peace of the night was broken when the fire alarm started blaring. It would shrilly blare, stop and then repeat the same shrill blare two seconds later. And it was not going to ( Read more... )

Every other fire alarm that he'd heard had only proven to be drills so Alex had tried to stay in bed. That proved fruitless when the goddamn alarm wouldn't shut up. So, he'd come down to the lawn, found himself soaking wet and unable to smoke.

Fucking great.

Dinah near-sleepwalked outside in pajama shorts and tank top, a most unhappy and meowing Camille riding in the pocket of her thin robe, and swayed, blinking. "I am so glad I missed the last one now." Yaaaaawn. Then paused to stick out her tongue to catch raindrops on her tongue.

"Dinah!" Karla called. "Over here!" She was dry, with a large area around her that also seemed rain-free.

Dinah stumbled over, then blinked in surprise when the lack of rain registered. "Oooooo. Good trick! How are you doing this?"

"A flat shield above my head makes for a brilliant rain shelter," Karla said, dimpling. She pointed upwards, where the rain looked as if it were landing on a large piece of glass. "I could probably make it big enough for everyone, but why put Turtle out of business? But invite people under if you'd like."

Hinata was rather certain that this was rather a waste--not the drill, she conceded, but in the rain it was definitely more of a pain.

Of course, most students probably didn't have a kitten who, while on a wee cat leash, was still sniffing around interestedly. So much for that whole 'cats don't like water bit', really. Yei seemed fine even as she was soaked and looking rather ridiculous.

"Hinata," Karla called. "You'll catch your death. C'mon over here!" Karla looked dry, though a bit grumpy.

Hinata flashed her a shy smile then, despite Yei's protests, neatly picked up her sodden kitten (who was thoroughly enjoying herself) and slipped over to Karla. "I'd rather not d-die," she said, quietly amused. "It would be a rather s-sorry end, out in the rain."

And the thought of her father potentially finding it fitting was one her mind swerved away from.

"Well, we can't have that," Karla said, smiling a bit. "Even though I could then run off with your kitten."

Worf was caught unprepared for the fire drill. As a result he was out in the rain wearing only his starfleet regulation boxers in the rain.

If there was any discomfort as a result, Worf was certainly not going to show it as he stood at attention waiting for the drill to be over.

Chuck wasn't about to fall for the whole "rush out like an idiot and be forced to stand outside in the cold" fire drill thing twice, thank you. When the alarm went off he had the foresight to grab an umbrella and a joint and was now enjoying the comforts of both as he stood outside.

That's right. The rest of you could suck it.

"Nice foresight," Valentine commented, sidling up to talk to Chuck, which was in no way related to the fact that he had an umbrella, really.

Okay, it was. And it seemed less work than convincing Turtle to give her one for free.

"Thank you. I've been victim of the fire drills before. Just be thankful it's warm out," Chuck said. Yeah, he totally knew why she was talking to him right now. Didn't mean he was going to offer to share his umbrella right away.

But if she got close enough, he wouldn't have to offer; he'd be sharing it by proximity alone. Nice thing about umbrellas were that they covered an area, albeit small, but still, a certain amount of space that Valentine didn't seem to have reservations about quietly invading.

"You think it's definitely a drill, then, and not something burning down for real?"
