Spooky Things Campfire: Wednesday Night [7-8-09]

Jul 08, 2009 19:03

Helen was quite pleased with her day, all things considered. Teasing Edward and being told by Loki that she could refuse to answer a teacher's question had provided her with amusement and given her a good deal to think about.

Yakko rushed over to the campfire, planted a taxi stand sign in the ground, then started signaling any taxis that might come by.

Not that any were going to. It was just a way to pass the time.

"Hello!" Yakko said as he tried to spot if there were any cabs coming around the corner.

Helen looked at him curiously. "What is a taxi?"

"It's something that never shows up when you're waiting for it, that's what it is," Yakko said, sounding a bit annoyed by the fact that he'd been here for ten seconds and STILL no taxi.

In the middle of the woods.

On an island without cars.

Helen could think of a great many things that could apply to. Like a watched pot boiling. Or getting respect.

"Do you need to call it?" she suggested, thinking perhaps it was some sort of animal, but still not sure why a sign was necessary.

The first week, Mirax was still getting a feel for things and how everything worked, so she had no problem wandering down to a strange campfire. "You sharing?" she asked, nodding towards the marshmallows. Not that she knew what they were. It was a good opening line.

"Thanks," she said, reaching for the bag. "Edible, right? I assume?"

Helen blinked at her. "I'd hardly be eating them if they were not," she said slowly. "But yes. They may be eaten as they are or heated until they are golden brown - or charred if you prefer that."

Oh how Adora loved campfires! She smiled at her new friends and took a seat. "I see you already have the chocolate, all that's missing is someone to sing for us!"

"You're welcome to sing if you wish," Helen told her.

"Oh, not me! I wouldn't want any nearby wildlife to run off in terror!" Adora laughed lightly. "You don't sing, do you?" So much hope.

"I, well..." Helen hesitated uncomfortably. She'd been taught of course, but no one other than the priest supervising her lessons had ever heard her. "I... no, I think not."
