[Outside the dorms, Friday Night]

Jan 19, 2007 16:48

Alec held the door open for Molly and Alanna as they left the dorms, then let it fall closed as he stepped up to walk alongside them. "So, what are we getting again?"

"More chips and soda," Molly said.

"I vote muffins." Alanna said and tugged her coat around herself some more.

"Muffins are always a good choice," Alec said, nodding. "I say chocolate, too."

"Ooo! Yes! Lots of chocolate!" Molly agreed.

"And blueberry!" Alanna added and headed towards J,GoB.

"Blueberry chocolate?" Alec arched an eyebrow, trying to decide if that sounded good or not.

"Eww," Molly said and made a face. "Please tell me you're stuck on muffins and that there isn't such a thing as blueberry chocolate," she said to Alanna.

Alanna took some time seriously considering this question. "Well, I know there's chocolate with blueberry filling. But I really, really hope there are no chocolate blueberry muffins because yuck."

"Why yuck? Sounds like it could be tasty," Alec said, looking somewhat quizzical.

"I don't like fruit and chocolate together," Molly said.

"Chocolate covered starwberries are good." Alanna pointed out. "It's just the combining of the two in one food that's a problem."

"I have trouble believing that," Alec said dubiously. "But so far I haven't found a lot of food I don't like, either."

Alanna snorted. "Remind to offer you something I made. Then you'll find a lot of food you don't like."

Molly snickered behind her hand since she had heard rumors.

Alec grinned. "Try me. I like a challenge, especially when there's food involved."

"Oh you're on. But I'm not providing medical attention afterwards. And I'm not responsible if you never want to touch food again."

"You are so on your own for that challenge, Alec," Molly told him.

"As long as it's not actually poison, I should be fine," Alec said, eyeing them. "But how can anyone cook that badly?"

"I burned oatmeal, my salad gave people food poisoning, and the least said about the desert, the better. So what'll be?" Alanna beamed at Alec.

Alec pursed his lips as he considered his certain doom, then nodded. "Muffins."

Molly just snickered.

"One tray of muffins, to be delivered to Alec in room where ever he might be on Monday. Check." Alanna said with a perfectly straight face. "And I promise I'll try my best to actually make them eatable."

"I appreciate the effort," Alec assured her, smirking. Anything else he might have said was instantly forgotten as he heard something in the nearby trees. Alec looked around, frowning. "Did you guys hear something?"

Molly looked the same way Alec was. "No. What did you hear?"

"It sounded like a shout, or like someone hurt," Alec said, eyes narrowing as he took a step towards the sound, head cocked slightly as he listened harder. "Not too far away, either."

"Are you sure? Not your imagination or anything?" But at the same time, Alanna reached to make sure her sword was easily accesible.

"Do you think you can find where it's coming from, Alec?" Molly was also at alert now, ready to run wherever Alec pointed.

"Not my imagination," Alec said firmly, still listening. "Two people, I think. There." He pointed at a spot among the trees that seemed no different from anywhere else, but the look on his face indicated he was serious and quite sure.

Alanna loosened her sword and started in the direction Alec pointed out. "How far?"

Molly started walking the way Alec pointed even as Alanna asked her question. She didn't want to run ahead, but she wanted to go find whatever it was that had Alec on alert.

Alec went to follow, not exactly against Molly taking point since she'd probably be able to take anything that came at them. "Thirty meters or so," he said over his shoulder. "Just barely inside my range of hearing."

Alanna followed behind Molly, working on not making too much noise. "What did you hear, exactly?"

"It sounded like someone in pain, crying out. Maybe female," Alec told Alanna, lowering his voice as they moved closer to where he'd heard it coming from. "And then another voice - male - saying something."

Molly started running, trusting the others to catch up. If someone was in trouble, she wanted to get there as quickly as possible.

Alanna did her best to keep up and keep quiet.

Alec could do that easily enough, still letting Molly take the lead but keeping alert as they moved into the trees and further. He corrected their path a little upon seeing some sign of recent movement in the area, but stayed silent otherwise.

Molly slowed when she'd gone about as far as Alec had indicated. She looked around for movement, but the darkness made it hard to see this far away from the campus lights.

She stopped to listen. "Where, Alec?" she whispered.

Alec moved up beside her, speaking very quietly. "I couldn't tell any more specifically. You look here," he said, gesturing to the immediate area. "I'll scout around a little in case I was off." He made sure she'd heard him, then was gone to look around.

Alanna caught up at the end of that sentance and decided to go with the person she had some chance of keeping up with. "Molly, hold on." She hissed.

Molly waited for Alanna.

"Do you hear anything?" she whispered after the other girl had caught up and they began to look around.

Alanna shook her head. "Don't hear anything, don't see anything." She placed her hand on the gem at her throat. "Still don't see anything."

A few meters away, a spiked-heel might be seen for those with a good eye, but the rest of Buffy's body was hidden by bushes. She looked like a broken ragdoll someone had absently thrown away.

Molly barely made out the sharp, obviously non-nature made shape of the shoe and went to go take a closer look. Coming around the bushes, she realized what it was-- who it was-- and quickly knelt beside Buffy.

"GUYS!" she yelled. "Here! It's Buffy and she's hurt! Come quick!" She picked up Buffy's hand.

Alanna cussed out and ran over to Buffy. "Make sure no one suprises us." She snapped at Molly and dropped down to her knees to feel for Buffy's pulse.

Molly nodded and stood up again, laying Buffy's hand gently back down on the ground first.

Alec pushed through the bushes with much less care at keeping quiet and a worried look on his face. "Buffy's hurt?"

Molly had dropped into a ready stance when she heard the crashing in the bushes but relaxed when she realized it was Alec. "Yes," she said quietly. "She isn't moving at all. Alanna's looking at her. Did you see anybody else out here?"

"No one," Alec said, frowning. "No trail that I could find, either." He glanced at Alanna as she hovered over Buffy, looking murderous. "Had to be someone stronger than human to take her down though."

"She's not breathing." Alanna said, one hand slightly glowing as she held Buffy's hand. She let go, and instead placed her hand on the girl's throat and concentrated. A faint purple glow sorrounded Buffy's neck and Alanna's hand.

"Pulse?" Alec watched, his usual leeriness of magic gone when it was Buffy's life at stake.

"Faint." Alanna replied curtly and moved her hand back to Buffy's hand. "I healed her throat but she's still not breathing."

"Do you know CPR?" Alec knelt down on the other side of Buffy, giving Alanna a hard look. He didn't want to waste time, but she was the one with the healing magic and he didn't know what else she might be able to do.

Alanna didn't let go of Buffy's hand and continued to channel a bit of her power into the other girl. "Theory, yes. Practice? No."

Nodding, Alec leaned over and pinched Buffy's nose shut, sealing his mouth over hers as he forced air into her lungs, once and then again. Sitting up again, expression grim, he placed his hands on her chest to begin compressions as he watched her face. "Come on," he muttered.

When she still didn't breathe, he repeated the process - two breaths and then compressions, jaw tensing when nothing seemed to happen as he forced her ribcage down and then released. Miraculously though, the next push was followed by a thin gasp as Buffy inhaled oxygen. Alec sat back with a shaky sigh as she continued breathing, though she didn't open her eyes.

Molly came back from doing a quick check of the immediate area. "Is she okay?" she asked breathlessly, worriedly.

Alanna rocked back on her heels, but didn't let go of Buffy's hand and the puprle glow continued. "She's breathing, but her leg is smashed and we need to get her to the clinic, now."

"I can carry her," Molly said stepping forward.

Alec looked up at Molly, nodding. "You carry her, I'll cover you."

Molly nodded back and crouched down to gently pick Buffy up in her arms. "Okay, let's go," she said when she stood up again.
