As someone who has never been able to quite put into words why they don't like Eleven without being bashed as a Ten has-been fan, this is the best comment. Thank you.
Those are the reasons I don't like him, exactly. No really, I liked Ten's personality and moral judgement more. I'm not lying, Eleven!fans.
People who bash you as a Ten fan just for disliking Eleven are jerks. I love Eleven, but people have different tastes and reasons for liking/disliking a character. It's kind of shitty writing those opinions off as invalid or saying that anyone who doesn't like Eleven must just be an angry Ten fan.
(This is, of course, as long as the person doesn't feel the need to constantly bombard me with reasons that Eleven sucks and try to convince me to change my opinion. That is also jerk behaviour. Luckily, not many people that I've run across do that.)
And of course the way the Doctor asks Rory for permission to hug Amy.
See, I never saw this particular moment as sexist even if there are definite moments/flaws. Because to be honest, if someone was married/with someone else and they were genuinely upset, I would confirm with their spouse/SO if it were alright to comfort them regardless of their sex.
I couldn't imagine just elbowing in and being all, "HI I KNOW YOU HAVE SOMEONE CLOSER TO YOU, GONNA HUG YOU NOW!!" To me it just seems intrusive and awkward. :/
