I have shelves full of books for teens and preteens, too. It's a really nice break from depressing literary fiction and problematic and/or dense/overwritten sci-fi fantasy. If, when I finally get two hours to read, my only choices were "why it sucks to be poor and/or black and/or sick and/or gay in whatever-ist location X" or "twenty pages of elaborate stew description followed immediately by the decapitation of yet another main character, rinse and repeat" I would not be a happy camper.
It's a lot harder to find something interesting in Adult lit. It's like all the cool ideas get shuffled into teen lit, and the adult lit gets all hung up on realism and stuff when all you really want to read about a dragons, unicorns and six foot tall blue rabbits named Killer, damn it.
And, yep. Plus it's one of the few books that I adore the book-on-tape just as much, so it's perfect for roadtrips~ (I get carsick If I read in the car, but listening to things? Perfection!)
Seriously, I reread that book series... A lot. Like, a lot a lot. I got my brothers hooked on it, along with Tamora Pierce's books, it's fun to bond over those author's with my bros. :)
Her books are just the best. I re-read them this Christmas on my new Kobo, and they really stood up to the test of time. Tamora Pierce did too, come to think of it.
High-five! That book series is just so perfect! One of the things I loved best was that the female characters weren't made to be stronger/better than the male ones by dumbing down the male characters. (Except for Therandil....) Like, I love strong characters who are female, but I love it better when they're strong and awesome on their own merits, and not because they live in a world of idiots. Ya know? All the guy characters have their own specialties/intelligence's, and they all seem realer for it. :)
YES. I definitely agree with that. Also, Morwen is the best character ever. And I love that some of the female characters were allowed to be domestic and otherwise 'conventionally' feminine while still being strong characters, meaning that masculinity wasn't equated directly with being strong. <3

I mean, Cimorene fights for the right to learn how to cook, instead of rejecting it! And she's still badass and awesome. I love these books!
