Gabe had seemed a little uneasy when Sarah took the dog on a walk that morning; he kept sniffing the air and lingering a bit too long at certain corners. That was enough to have Sarah on her guard. But after she'd checked the news from the island and the rest of the world and seen nothing of particular interest, she rolled her eyes at herself, cleared some space in the middle of the store, and started to throw a ball for Gabe to catch.

He joined the game happily; whatever had been on his wee doggy brain couldn't have been that interesting.
