The air-conditioning at Portalocity was on the fritz today, leaving the office quite a bit hotter than the temperature outside. Sam fiddled with the machinery after a while -- it was hot, and her uniform was rather heavy and made it even hotter -- but it didn't seem to budge. Right. So. There'd been an incident a couple of weeks ago where a magical teleportation attempt had gone badly and left half Kennedy's squad so violently nauseated they'd been badly off their game in the fight and sustained some pretty nasty injuries. Plus it had disintegrated one of her favorite swords (not the one Zack gave her forever ago, luckily) in the process, which added a little extra whipped-cream topping of crankiness onto her guilt at letting her girls get hurt. It hadn't been Willow's fault; she'd been working with a couple of other witches, and there was something about them not all being properly attuned to each other that threw the monkey wrench into the whole deal, and she felt guilty about it despite Kennedy's insistence that she wasn't to blame. Still, ever since then Kennedy had opted for using Portalocity instead, trying to take advantage of the discount she'd wrangled out of them after the Nothing incident. Yeah, look, there was a lot of pretty in this room regardless.

"Ha! Good one. Oh, god, if some of the mojo-slingers in my world figured out how to turn a profit?" Kennedy made a show of cringing melodramatically. "Total disaster and multiple lawsuits waiting to happen. I think you're safe there."

"I'd almost prefer if it were a competitor, in that case," Sam noted wryly. Because another company's bad PR was good PR for Portalocity. "In any case -- I'll get right on making sure your universe is hooked up for good this time. I'd hate for you to be burned a third time."

Oh, she had. It was probably approaching the double digits by now. Portals.
