While strolling along the River Thames, Clow Reed felt an almost familiar sparkle of power. It wafted along the breeze mixing with the smell of pastries from a nearby bakery. He followed the sense of power back to its source, weaving back and forth through London, knowing better than to fight the inevitability of hitsuzen.
Leaving the more respectable areas behind him, Clow Reed arrived in front of a nameless opium den.
Calmly stepping over the very listless young man passed out atop the stoop, he opened the door and entered. Picking his way through the antechamber around the intoxicated men who had all collapsed wherever they fell, Clow Reed finally reached the source.
Pushing the colorful, almost gaudy butterfly bead curtain aside, he entered the silk-shrouded depths of the room where he bowed courteously to the languid figure reclined on the divan.
“I do hope you haven’t been waiting too long,” he said cheerfully, a gentle smile on his face. “I had a feeling it was time we meet.”
