Summary: Which miss does she miss?
Author's Notes: More procrastination!
She misses her. Although Stacy loves Mark, there are times when she wishes she could just escape back to Lisa’s house for a few hours, especially when Mark enters one of his moods.
Maybe, she thinks as she lies in bed, with Mark snoring softly beside her, that’s why things ended so badly with Greg.
She couldn’t help wanting to find some place else when Greg fell into a moody, silent lapse shortly after the infarction. And now the same urge comes over her now. If she learnt to deal with it then, maybe she could deal better with Mark now.
Or maybe she never would have met Mark.
But as she turns her head to Mark, watching his chest rise and fall with each breath, she still feels that sting of missing Lisa.
But everything, she knows, must come to an end.

Summary: She’s just going to the store, really.
‘Mark, calm down,’ Stacy groaned softly, a hand to her forehead. She could feel a headache coming on. ‘I’m not going to see Greg.’
‘So why do you want to go so desperately, huh?’
He was in another one of his moods. Chest heaving slightly, Stacy adjusted her bag strap on her shoulder and crossed her arms over her chest.
‘Unless you can whip up something to stop the bleeding coming from my vagina, I need to go to the store.’
‘Take me with you, then.’
His brow was narrowed, his hands gripping the wheels on his wheelchair so tightly that his knuckles were turning white.
‘Mark… no. You’re tired. Have a sleep.’
‘I’m not tired!’
‘You are. You’re always exhausted after the physio.’
‘I want to go the store.’
‘Stop acting childish.’ Stacy let out a slow sigh and started to the door. ‘I’ll only be gone for forty-five minutes. I’ll have my cell on me. Call me if you need anything, but please, have a sleep. You’ll feel better after it.’
She could feel Mark’s eyes on her as she headed through the door. It wasn’t a lie- she was going to the store. To see Lisa. And go to her home afterwards. Choosing to lie wasn’t the best thing, but she couldn’t let Mark figure it out.

Summary: Another way to ease the suffering.
Ever since she was in school, Lisa wanted to be a doctor. She wanted to help people. Doing ballet was one thing, but helping people back on their own two feet was another. She never let herself go out and have fun, until Stacy came onto the scene. She was vivacious and wild and could make her laugh like nobody else. House, too, albeit on a more migraine-producing level.
She never expected to see Stacy again. But as she croaked out her emotions and fears, everything came flooding back. Lisa was a doctor, not a psychiatrist… but if she had to help Stacy by listening, so be it.

Summary: It’s time to leave.
The small girl gave a giggle as she clutched the fluffy toy duck. Buttoning up Charmaine’s frilly pink dress, she scooped her up in her arms.
‘Happy birthday, Charmaine!’ she whispered, placing a soft kiss to the year-old baby’s forehead.
‘She’s so big,’ Stacy whispered softly. Lisa nodded, turning to Stacy, a hand to the back of Charmaine’s head. ‘Is anybody coming over?’
‘Dad’s coming down. A few parents from the daycare are bringing their kids. Nothing spectacular.’
‘Is Greg coming?’
The question seemed to come out of nowhere. Raising an eyebrow, carrying Charmaine into the kitchen and setting her in the highchair, Lisa turned around.
‘Is that why you’re here?’
‘No!’
Snorting softly, Lisa spun around to the fridge and started to pull items from it. ‘When you walked out of my life, Stacy, you also walked out of House’s and Charmaine’s. You said it yourself- I’m not good enough for you. You have Mark.’
‘I know, but- ’
Pointing a carrot at Stacy, Lisa shook her head. ‘No “but”s, Stacy. You should be happy I even let you see Charmaine. Now get out of my house, I don’t want to see you here ever again.’
Stacy stared at Lisa, lips pursed, before nodding once and snatching her purse from the table and moving quietly through the front door.

Summary: Independence is her middle name.
Lisa was always a very independent woman. She took it from her mother. When all her friends were getting married, Lisa remained on her own two feet, head held high, and happily single.
Even with her girlfriends and boyfriends, Lisa always managed to do her own thing. There were those that tried to hold her down- promises of engagements, sharing homes, weddings. Some of them appealed to her, but for the most part she just wanted to remain on her own.
Stacy understood that. Granted, she was married herself so even if she did want to marry Lisa, they’d have to move to Canada, Stacy would need to divorce Mark, and Lisa would have to be willing to agree. It wasn’t that she was afraid of commitment, she just never saw herself as the marrying type.
Maybe that was why she was so lonely.
