When they meet Chester gets to his stiletto-encased feet and reaches out a hand. Brad takes it in his, brings it to his lips. Chester’s dress sparkles in the dim light of the bar as he takes a seat, crossing one leg over another.
“Mike’s told me all about you,” he says, picking up his glass and taking a sip.
Brad nods, downs half of his beer. Mike’s told him all about Chester. You’ll love her, he said. Which confused Brad, since he had been sure Mike had been talking about a guy. He guesses, in 2007, you can be whoever you want to be.
“I know you’re disappointed,” says Chester, his (her?) deep, brown eyes staring Brad down. They’re are outlined with black pencil, and his lashes coated in mascara. That’s all Brad remembers.
A few more beers and a taxi ride back to Chester’s house solves it all.
But Brad wakes up at home, alone.
With the memory of dark eyes, and lipstick stained wine glasses.
