Author's Notes:Well, I have to get this arc out of my head. It's getting annoying. So, Inui and Kana are married now, as are Renji and Mizu. (We all knew it was going to happen *anyway*). Using the strikeouts so people might remember who I'm actually talking about. So ages: Inui and Renji - 25, Mizu - 24, Kana - 27/28. And this is the longest story I've written yet!

June tended to be a busy month for the Yanagis. There was Renji's birthday, and not to mention the two wedding anniversaries later in the month. So someone had the bright idea that on the first Saturday of June, no matter when it was would be the day they celebrate everything.

And so here it was that first Saturday, and everyone was gathered once again. It had honestly been a long time since everyone was together. Kana and Sadaharu had gotten married a few years ago and settled in Tokyo. Renji and Mizu had finally gotten married as well and had their own place nearby as Renji had been offered a job at his alma mater.

Mizu squealed quietly when she saw Kana and the sleeping baby she held. "Oh, he's so cute!" She looked at her sister-in-law. "May I hold him?" Kana nodded and handed the baby over.

Renji smiled just a little. Now that Tori had one grandchild, she'd been after Renji and Mizu to have a child. "I'm still not happy about you marrying my sister, Sadaharu." He said quietly as Sadaharu took a seat next to him. "I can't quite understand how you can see her as anything more than, well..." He trailed off.

"I know, Renji." He said. "Just because she's your sister doesn't mean that I ever saw her as such." Sadaharu watched as the women crowded around his son. "Besides, it's been three years. I think you've had plenty of time to get over it."

"I have, really." Renji said. "This is almost like the old days."

"Almost. We're getting too old, I think."

"Why, Sadaharu, we're only 25." Renji said, smiling a little.

"I still feel old." Sadaharu said as Kana sat down next to him.

"Does the brat feel the same way?" She teased.

"Not a bit." Renji said. "You've let go of your baby for a few minutes?"

"His name is Kenjiro, and yes, I'm not protective of him despite what people are thinking. Besides, I trust Mother and Mizu with him. You should spend some time with your nephew as well." Kana told her little brother.

Renji grimaced. The last time he held a baby...well, let's just say it didn't end well. Mizu had accepted a babysitting job, and while she was great with the baby, Renji wasn't. At least it had amused Mizu to no end when every time he had tried to hold the baby it just kept screaming its poor little head off.

Tori came into the room carrying her grandson. "That one was probably just fussy." She said, handing the little one to Renji. "Kenjiro isn't nearly as fussy. In fact, he's sleeping." Renji was a bit nervous, but took the baby. Kana smiled a little.

"He's not going to bite you, Renji." Sadaharu said. "He doesn't have teeth yet."

Renji didn't know whether to kick his friend, or to laugh. He had to admit this wasn't quite as bad as the last time.

"So when are you and Mizu going to have one?" Tori asked, smiling. Renji froze.

Mizu had walked into the room, but was smiling a little. She'd gotten used to Tori's pushing at them for a grandchild. "Kana, you might want to grab your son before Renji drops him." Mizu said, making sure that didn't happen and saw Kenjiro safely back to his mother's arms. After Kenjiro was out of the way, Mizu settled herself on Renji's lap.

"Perhaps she'll get another one this way?" Sadaharu teased quietly. Renji actually did smack him in the arm.

"Just because we haven't had a baby yet doesn't mean we won't at some point." Mizu said. "Perhaps soon though." She smiled.

"And it had better be a boy." Tori said, smiling.

"Mother, you know we can't guarantee that." Renji said, trying not to blush and trying to ignore the fact that Mizu was pushing back on him a little. Tori laughed.

"I know. As long as you have one at some point." She said, smiling.

"Such pressure." Mizu said, emphasizing her words by squirming a little in Renji's lap. Kana giggled. Mizu winked at Kana, and then stood up. "Tori-san and I fixed lunch, and there's plenty to go around." She said, waiting for everyone to go on ahead. Renji got up and wrapped his arms around Mizu.

"You're cruel." He whispered in her ear.

"Not really. I'm really starting to feel ready for an actual family now. And, well..." Mizu looked over at where Kana was settling Kenjiro in the carrier. She blushed and turned around to look up at her husband. Renji kissed her.

"I know, Mizu. Are you sure though? I'm just...I feel like it's right, and yet..."

"I am. Besides, your mother doesn't need to know we've been trying anyway." She winked at him. "Come on, everyone's waiting for us." Mizu said, sliding out of his arms and pulling him to the dining room.

"When did we get such a large family?" Kenichi asked, amazed at how many people they could fit in their house.

"I like these moments. It doesn't feel as empty as it usually does now that the kids have moved out." Tori said, passing one of the dishes around.

"Why did we all get married in June?" Mizu asked.

"Because it's easy to remember, especially with all the birthdays." Kana said, smiling.

They all ate in silence for a while.

"Kana?" Sadaharu said quietly. "Should we say something about...you know what?" He finished. Kana blushed a little.

"About what?" Tori asked.

"I think we pretty much have to now, Sadaharu." Kana said, smiling. "And since I have everyone's attention because of this, I might as well announce this. I'm pregnant again." Tori and Mizu squealed with delight. Kenichi just let the girls have their moment. Renji glared at Sadaharu, who kicked Renji under the table.

"Congratulations." Renji said quietly. He was happy for them, really. Perhaps a bit jealous as well, but Kana was older than he was. Renji would always be a few steps behind her. Mizu squeezed Renji's hand under the table.

"Someday." She whispered to him. Renji nodded.

The conversation died down again while everyone ate. It settled into a nice, familiar quiet. Which was soon broken by Kenjiro's rather loud demand for attention. Kana smiled, and carried him off to take care of whatever he needed. Renji volunteered to help clean up since Mizu had helped with the food. Sadaharu joined him in the clean up efforts.

"Are you really mad?" Sadaharu asked quietly.

Renji sighed. "I really can't be." He said. "Kenjiro is only six months old though. Are you sure you're not pushing Kana into this?"

"Renji, I would never do such a thing. And we discussed this before we got married. We know it's going to be work, but we want a large family. I know I'm not exactly well versed in having siblings, but Kenjiro isn't going to be an only child."

"You know the older a woman gets, the more difficult pregnancy can be. I don't want Kana to get wore out or see anything go wrong." Renji said quietly. Kana had given them regular updates while she had been pregnant with Kenjiro, and it seemed like a lot to go through.

"I know you worry about her. I do too. Probably more so. I have to live with her." Sadaharu smiled. Renji laughed.

"So you do." He agreed, finishing up the last of the dishes. He leaned against the counter. "Before I forget, and while I'm not feeling like killing you for impregnating my sister yet again," Renji smiled. "Happy birthday, Sadaharu."

Sadaharu smiled. "Happy birthday, Renji." He returned. "No cake? Mizu's been slacking off."

"No, she knows you like to stick your fingers in it before everyone else, and she was tired of seeing the prints through the decorating she worked so hard to finish. And she put a lot of work into this one." Renji said, smiling.

"That's not fair." Sadaharu pouted.

"Fair is fair in love and war." Renji said. "And this is both."

"Alright, birthday boys, remain three meters away from the cake." Mizu said, coming into the kitchen to retrieve it from its hiding place.

"How are we going to eat it then?" Renji asked, perfectly serious. Sadaharu laughed.

Mizu smiled. "You're not." She answered, just as serious. The boys stared at her. She started giggling. "Of course I'm going to let you eat it."

"Ah, one of Mizu-chan's cakes!" Kana said, joining everyone, Kenjiro in her arms. "Too bad you're too little to eat cake."

"That would be the last thing he needs anyway." Sadaharu said, smiling a little.

"Feed him all the cake you can, Kana." Renji said. Mizu giggled.

"He doesn't mean that." She said, standing close to him after everyone had a piece of cake. Mizu just stole random bites from Renji's piece.

"Get a piece if you want some, dear." Renji told her, holding it above his head. Mizu pouted since she was obviously shorter than her husband.

"Yours always tastes better." Mizu said, smiling. "And I'm quite full from dinner, honestly. Besides, I know the Inuis have to leave soon anyway. I also haven't been feeling great lately. I think I've come down with whatever stomach flu is going around."

"Yes, we do need to be going soon." Kana agreed. "I'm going to get Ken in the carrier." Kana made Kenjiro wave at them. "Say good bye to Uncle Renji and Aunt Mizu." She said as Kenjiro made baby noises. Mizu laughed.

"Bye, Ken-chan!" Mizu said quietly.

Sadaharu finished up his cake. "You'll forgive me if I don't help this time?" He asked.

"We will." Mizu said before Renji could say anything. "Have a safe trip home, Inui-kun."

"Mizu, you're Renji's wife. You have as much right to call me 'Sadaharu' as he does." Sadaharu said. "Whatever you feel comfortable with though." He waved at them and went to find his own wife.

Mizu started washing their dishes. Renji joined her, drying the dishes and putting them away. "Well, kids, what do you think?" Tori asked, coming in to make sure her kitchen looked pretty much like it had in the morning.

"It's clean." Mizu said, smiling brightly at her mother-in-law. Tori laughed.

"Going home?" She asked.

"I thought you wanted more grandchildren." Renji said, smiling. Mizu blushed a little. Tori laughed.

"There's no pressure, really." Tori said. "How is the new place?"

Mizu bounced. "I love it! It just seems so big right now though."

"That will change someday." Renji said. Mizu nodded.

"I know." She said. "Well, now that your mother had free labor to clean her kitchen for her, shall we go, Renji?" She winked at him. "Since you're so excited about giving your mother more grandchildren." Mizu licked her lips teasingly. Renji blushed.

"Mizu!" Tori laughed at them.

"Good girl!" Tori said. Mizu laughed as well.

"It's so much fun teasing you." Mizu said, standing on her tip-toes to kiss her husband on the cheek. "Come on, Renji. Let's go home." She said, pulling him towards the door.

"Bye, Mother." Renji waved to her, and wrapped his arm around Mizu as they walked down the streets. "This feels strange yet."

"Having a place of our own to call home? It does. I know we could have lived with your parents for as long as we needed to, but I really want to be out on our own." Mizu said.

"But such a large house?" Renji asked. "Like you said, it feels so empty." Mizu pressed a bit closer to him.

"We need to change that then, don't we?" She smiled as they walked in the door of their own house. Mizu frowned and headed straight for the bathroom. "We won't be working on changing that tonight." She said, sighing a little.

"You should see a doctor, Mizu." Renji said, taking a seat on their couch.

"I will tomorrow." Mizu said, joining him on the couch and snuggling up to him. "Promise." Renji nodded.

"Thank you. I worry about you, you know."

"I know." Mizu said.

The next day passed quickly. Renji came home to an empty house. Mizu had left a note for him saying that her appointment with the doctor was right about the time he usually came home. Renji smiled and decided to start fixing some dinner for them.

Mizu came home about a half hour later. "Renji?" She called out.

"In the kitchen." He called back, sitting at the kitchen table grading his students papers. Mizu came and joined him, sitting down. Renji looked over at her. "So what's wrong?"

Mizu smiled. "Nothing's wrong." She said, moving over to sit in his lap. "In fact, something is very, very right." She said, kissing him. Renji blinked, confused. Mizu giggled. "I'm pregnant." Renji stared at her.

"You...we're..." He trailed off, very shocked. "We're having a baby." He finally got out, hugging Mizu tightly. Mizu held on to him tightly.

"Your mother will be thrilled." Mizu said. "Though I'd prefer no one else know just yet. I don't want something to go wrong and then have to tell people something went wrong." Renji nodded.

"I understand. We'll wait for a while." They sat like that for a while.

Mizu sniffed the air. "Renji? Do I smell something burning?" Renji's eyes widened.

"Yes." He said, pushing her off his lap and went to turn off the oven and rescue the dinner he tried to make for them. Mizu smiled.

"That was sweet of you." She said, kissing him. "Clean that up and I'll fix something." She said. Mizu was in the midst of mixing her ingredients together when it really hit her. "Oh, gods." Mizu froze and leaned against the counter. "I am going to have a baby." Renji looked over at her.

"Mizu, you're not alone." He said, setting aside his cooking disaster and pulling his wife to him. "We're going to survive this, and we're going to be great parents. You're already good at some of that stuff." Mizu nodded.

"You're right. It doesn't change the fact that we're going to be parents though." She smiled, then laughed a little. "I suppose ours will be born right around the same time as Kana's. That should be interesting." Mizu said, turning back to her cooking. "And Mika-chan is already four months along. She's starting to show. Wow, so many kids at once."

"Mizu?" Renji broke into her rambling thoughts.

"Ours is probably going to be the youngest of the group. That's alright though."

"Mizu." Renji repeated, hoping she'd listen this time.

"Huh? Sorry." She apologized. "I'm just...excited, nervous, scared, worried..."

Renji smiled. "I am too, honestly. Perhaps you should take a deep breath and relax a little." He suggested. Mizu did so. "There you go. We have plenty of time to plan for this. Just stay calm as possible, alright." Mizu nodded. Renji guided Mizu to the chair and had her sit down. "We'll get through this together." Renji promised. Mizu hoped that they really would because she was too scared for anything else.

Mizu smiled a little. "Some birthday present, huh?" Renji blinked. He had actually forgotten that the day was actually his own birthday.

"I must admit, I think it's the best one I've ever gotten." He said, kissing Mizu.
