Fandom: The Painted Veil (2006)
Characters: Dr Walter Fane, Kitty Fane, mentions of Charles Townsend & Walter Jnr.

Title: Cigars
Prompt: 049 - Club
Word Count: 130
Rating: PG
Summary: Walter thinks about men like Charlie.

Men like Charlie were members of a gentleman’s club, Walter thought, where they played cards and smoked and laughed about men like him. Men who liked science and who were awkward around women.

His hand curled into a fist as he thought about all the time Kitty had had to be alone with Charlie. Walter should have asked her to get a hobby or join a womens’ club, or something….. Something to occupy her. Something to do she would not have sought solace with Charlie.

How had it started? Innocently? Hmm, he didn’t believe that of Charlie. The man did not have an innocent bone in his body.

Title: Earth
Prompt: 063 - Summer
Word Count: 190
Rating: PG
Summary: Kitty visits Mei-ton Fu. Post-movie

It was three years to the day that Walter had died. Kitty and Walter Jnr stood by the site of his grave in Mei-ton Fu.

Kitty looked around her, and a wry smile curved her lips. To think, she had dreaded coming here and hated living here, for a time. Now, she did not wish to be anywhere else.

The earth over Walter didn’t look like a grave. In fact, if it weren’t for the small cross and pile of stones where Walter’s head would be, no one would be able to tell that someone had been buried there.

It made Kitty’s heart ache to know that her husband had not been given a proper burial. She wished there’d been a way to bring him home, to bury him with the rest of his family in England…

But there was no point in crying over that now. For now, it was Summer. She lifted her face to the breeze, held her son’s hand, and began to tell her husband about her new life back in England. She believed that he could hear her.

Title: Wardrobe
Prompt: 017 - Brown
Word Count: 191
Rating: PG
Summary: Kitty is left with Walter's possessions.

Kitty closed her eyes and inhaled the smell of Walter that seeped from his wardrobe. It had been four days since his death, and she was back in Shanghai.

She remembered the early days, when she had still been eager to please. She’d wanted to learn to press his shirts. She’d enjoyed watching him tell her the proper way to wear a tie, how the collar should be turned, how one should button a shirt from the bottom up.

Her eyes grew wet as her mind wandered to the bad times, after Charlie. Why had she bothered with that cad? He had been useless.

Well, not quite useless. Kitty didn’t know if she and Walter would have discovered their love for each other if they had not been experienced the epidemic in Mei-ton Fu. It had really brought them towards each other.

But now…

She pulled out one of his suit jackets and held it to her face. It smelled of his cologne and she closed her eyes and inhaled. And then she sank to the floor, cradling the garment, and allowed herself to weep.

I'm pretty close to having 100 written now - woo!
