Fandom: The Painted Veil (2006)
Characters: Dr Walter Fane, Kitty Fane

Title: Thirty
Word Count: 119
Rating: G
Summary: KItty ponders a life with Walter.
Prompt: 039 - Taste

Kitty had kissed a few men in her time, but kissing Walter was different to anything she’d ever experienced. He was a gentle kisser, tentative, just brushing his lips over hers, as if afraid she’d break. Kitty wasn’t best pleased - she liked men to be forceful and masterful.

But she let him kiss her, and kissed him back as best she could, tasting him, and he tasted of after dinner mints and coffee, and she thought she wouldn’t mind that taste for the next thirty or so years.

But, wasn’t that a scary thought.

It was less scary than living with her mother for the next thirty years, though - there was small consolation in that.

Title: What Matters
Word Count: 130
Rating: G
Summary: Walter needs an answer
Prompt: 008 - Weeks

“How long have you been like this?” Walter asked Kitty. He searched her gaze, praying for an honest answer. Praying for any answer at all, really.

Kitty put a hand on her stomach. He thought she was counting the weeks backwards in her mind. He wondered if she, like he, was praying for the answer they both wanted. “A couple of months,” she said finally, her voice small in the room. “Walter…”

He stroked her hair; it was silky soft. The scent of herbal shampoo that the nuns had given her wrapped around him. “It doesn’t matter now, anyway,” he told her softly. “It doesn’t matter…”

She launched herself into his arms then, and he was so very glad of what he’d said.
