“You’re going to burn the house down with that.”
Mona glanced over and saw Celeste in her doorway, staring pointedly at her hand. Mona however just rolled her eyes and waved her other hand.
“Oh just shut the door already. You’re going to get us both in trouble.”
“I don’t see how you playing with fire would get me in trouble.” But she closed the door and walked over to the bed anyway.
“Of course you don’t.” Fire skirted over her knuckles as she moved her hand ever so slightly. “Remember angel. I go down, you’re coming with me.” She smirked as she glanced over. Not bothering to move from her position of leaning against the wall. “And when I mean down, I really mean down.”
Celeste just glared at her. “Oh stop that. You don’t scare me.”
Mona shrugged and went back to watching the flames dance on her hand. It looked like her fingers were on fire but it didn’t seem to bother her.
The room was silent as Mona watched her fire and Celeste stood in front of her.
“....so that’s really....” Celeste finally broke the silence.
“Hell Fire.” She chuckled as she saw uneasiness at the mention of it. “Oh yes. Straight from the pits of Tartarus themselves. Want some?”
“I thought we agreed about this.” Celeste had flinched without realizing it as Mona held up the hand. “None of your demon nonsense.”
“Relax, I was joking.” Mona rolled her eyes.
“That’s not a laughing matter.”
“Maybe not to you. I thought it was quite funny.”
“.....I don’t know why I even bother talking to you.”
“I wish you didn’t.”
There was a pause as they looked at each other through the flames. Neither one was ready to drop the stare. There was nothing but the sound of crinkling fire.
Eventually Mona dropped her gaze, her lip twitching with annoyance at having lost. “Go away.”
“Put the fire out first.”
“It’s perfectly safe.”
“Out.”
Mona drew a deep shuddery breath as she tried to control her temper. Her pride stung as she did it though, knowing it just showed another weakness.
“Out.” Celeste repeated. Her arms folded, and stare, unyielding.
Mona held up a hand and the fire started to die down. Slowly.
“Can’t you just-“
“I’ll throw it at your head if you don’t shut up.” Mona replied, her tone as rigid as steel. The fire was still dying.
“You never make anything easy do you.” Celeste turned around and this time Mona did have to resist throwing the flame at her retreating head. It was bad enough she had to live with that conceited brat. Making rules about everything.
She looked at the remaining flames in her hand and then threw them in the air. Watching as they rained down and then disappeared from view. She wished she’d just let them burn the house down. Maybe if she was lucky that Angel wouldn’t be able to escape....
