I don't have either of those eReaders (I have the older model Sony PRS 505) but I have to say: eReaders are THE BEST for reading a ton of fanfic conveniently. eReader + Calibre = JOY.

Happy Christmas indeed!

Hey, thank you. Why do you like the kindle more? It is because it's better quality? or the organization? You really can create kindle friendly file from Calibre? I have it, and I generate only epub. I use mobipocket to convert html files into prc = kindle friendly for friends....

Is your kindle tactile? or not?

Thanks
Sam

I have a Sony, but don't buy books much from the Sony store (I have a bunch of free ones they gave away from the Sony USA store...) It works with some stores like bol.com/nl which is very helpful if you're inclined towards that sort of thing ( ... )

No idea on the Lyricon EBX600 e-ink but I assume the Touch and Pocket are referring to the Sony? The SO just got a Sony Daily Edition (the PRS 950) several weeks ago and is very happy with it so far. He wanted one that had no backlighting and liked the eInk, so that limited his choices. Like you, wi-fi was not a big issue for him. He preferred the larger screen, the touchscreen capabilities, and the fact that it allowed open source content and would be able to utilize material from our public libraries. He also tried out the Nook from Barnes & Noble but didn't like it as much and also found it slower in terms of pages turning and the font didn't enlarge as much. He doesn't know how well it works with purchasing books as he hasn't done so yet, though he did download a free title from the Sony reader store. So far, he's just loaded his own content on it with Calibre ( ... )

I have a new Nook Color that I'm just now playing with - they've added shelves so you can do collections by tag or topic - and it has the full color touchscreen and comes with 8G of memory that can be expanded to 32G with a microSD card ( I filled 2G of my older Nook with fanfic in 2 months! ;-)) It's an LCD screen though - backlit, so it's good in low light, but fades some in direct sunlight. It takes epub and PDFs just fine and will be getting QuickOffice so you can load Word docs direct. Battery doesn't last that long if you're using it for lots of pictures (Calibre lets me make covers of my own!) or music and web browsing, but I just charge it at night, like a phone. It has wifi, the pages turn like a book, and the fonts and backgrounds change by tapping the screen. It's not as customizable for side-loaded content as other readers and the eink of my original reader is still easier on the eyes, though. It's also fairly inexpensive compared to like an iPad or something. It depends on if you're reading mostly at home, at ( ... )
