LJ's new change to comments

Dec 21, 2011 12:48

I've been reading up on the changes to the comments and it looks like there may be a fix to show subject headings but you have to have a paid or plus account for it to work. I have neither. So it is highly unlikely that subject headers for comments will be coming back to this community on LJ ( Read more... )

I think this comm functions pretty well without the subject lines, just because most of the time the entries have been pretty specific.

I was sort of thinking the same thing. I'm just not sure how much of the fandom LJ community will shift over to Dreamwidth. I know I for one am not happy that I have to refresh the page in order to post regular comments and then refresh again to see my comment. It's annoying and weird and not at all pleasant and easy to use.

Ok first comment I have made with the new system.

I rarely use subject lines anyway....

I suspect a lot of people will switch. I'm a paid user, so I still see things pretty much all right, but the indignation over at the news post goes on for a ridiculous number of pages.

I don't feel that we need subject lines. We're a smaller community and it's not as necessary to us.

I'm already at Dreamwidth and it's a great place. Most of fandom is still here though. Every time LJ makes a big change like this, everyone squawks that they're going to DW, but so far that's never actually happened.

I think this time there may be a move in fandom at least for the anon meme fic communities. I tried reading some fic at the norsekink meme and it was impossible to figure out if the author had added a new chapter or not. The same with the Young Justice anon meme.

I think this community is fine the way it is but any community that relies on threaded stories and has 6 pages of comments...the lack of subject headings will be problematic. :(

I don't think it would hurt to mirror the community just in case.

It may be a few days before community imports are possible but I'm giving it some serious consideration.

from what I understand, community imports have never been allowed, just journal.

do you have any link info on community imports? maybe it's something new I didn't know about?

The Dreamwidth news community said within a day or two they should have community imports.

I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I've used a subject heading in a comment. I don't think comment subjects headings are necessary for this comm, and we've been getting along fine without them so far.

No, they aren't necessary for this comm AFAIK.

But for a lot of us they're necessary elsewhere and/or in general. For me personally, this is a make-or-break issue. If LJ don't roll this back, I'm out of here.

I've been slowly migrating as much as possible all my fannish activities to DW the one big holdout was that all the fanfic meme communities are on LJ. However, it looks like with this one change LJ has given communities no choice but to find another home. At least communities that do rely on subject headings. I read at the DW news that they are planning on making it possible to import communities to DW. As a regular user I no longer want much to do with LJ.
