HELP!

Today I downloaded Adobe Digital Edition because I purchased a Secure Epub book. I wanted to only open this one book on Adobe Digital. I got my husband to help and he told me to click here and there without really listening to what I wanted, and now all my epubs are set to open with ADE and I can't set them back. Now Calibre won't recognize any of ( Read more... )

I can recommend two things:
1)the easy way: if you have a pc then do a right click on the epub that you want to open, and chose on the menu "open with", then browse for the calibre program, and then Calibre should be able to open the ebook.
2) the tricky one: take one file (ebook) and make a copy of if, then change the extension from epub to mobi, and then again from mobi to epub, THIS NOT always work, that's why you have to make a copy of the original.

Before I could open Calibre and find all the books I wanted to download in a folder and download many at a time. The methods you suggest sounds like I have to download one at a time now or change one file at a time? I have hundreds of books :( I just want it back to the same it was before.

In the first option, if you have many books, you can select them at once, and do a right click (with the mouse) in the selection and then in the menu, click in the option "open with"....browse calibre program, and so on...
This wont work with the second option.
Sorry if this don't work for you :(, is the only way I can think of...

Thanks, I may have to try that if we can't change it back.

We've uninstalled ADE and are looking into clearing the registry keys next.

What about resetting the default 'association' file through the control panel? I'm sue that's how I sorted out an unfortunate change into Chinese once.

What's an association file? There is something that says "open with" and then I choose which program. That's how I got into this mess in the first place. But unfortunately there is nothing that resets it back to what it was originally. Just readers such as ADE, and other Adobe products or graphics programs and such.

You right-click on the file, and when you choose which program you want to Open with... look for a check box in that window, and check it if it's unchecked. This will set the association file (whose location I don't know, but I know from experience that this works), and you should be set. I will make some screencaps for you to see in a while.

You just have to do this using one single file, and the default program will be set for all such files.

Screencaps would really help thank you!
