Looks like a load of excuses for homophobia from where I'm sitting.

You must be sitting in a very strange place indeed.

Nope, I don't think so.

Then could you break down that argument a bit more for me?

No. Life is too short for that sort of debate on the internet. I just wanted to point out that not everyone sees the world the same way as you and that, heaven forbid, someone might actually think you're wrong. But you're entitled to your view and your rant, in the same way that I'm entitled to my opinion of your rant.

Life is too short for you to tell me why I'm wrong but you had the time to stop by and tell me that I was wrong?

OK, here goes. Picking what looks to me to be the most clear-cut example in your list.

The objection you cite based on '--Inability to procreate together' strikes me as wholly and utterly homophobic in this context (despite the fact that it could also apply to a heterosexual couple). Why the hell should anyone object to a couple being together based on their inability to procreate? Procreation is not the be all and end all of a relationship. Any relationship.

You might not be in the least bit homophobic, but your post came over that way to me.

Ok, you're probably a troll but on the off chance that you're not: it's pretty clear OP means that some characters could feel that way, not that they personally do.

I'm sure they know that that belief is wrong, they were merely saying that it would be IC for some characters to react like that.

For example, in HP, a pureblood family like the Malfoys or the Blacks would be more likely to oppose a homosexual relationship on the grounds of "we need an heir" than "ew gay."

The inclusion of the inability to procreate objection made me feel the list reflected at least some of the OPs own feelings. I can see no other reason for that particular objection being included as it is patently homophobic, however it gets dressed up.

I'm not a troll, I'm simply rarely annoyed enough to want to get involved in a thread like this. But that line irritated the hell out of me. I'm sick of seeing the inability to procreate used as a reason why same-sex relationships are wrong. It comes up a lot in the anti-gay marriage debate and it makes me so furious I decided to respond to the post. In hindsight I should have been more explicit earlier, but it was late at night when I saw the post, so I just called it how I saw (and still see) it.

I agree that it is a terrible opinion, I just didn't think that the OP had it. You could be right, but I just assumed they were in a fandom where they thought a character would think like that.

As for patently homophobic... it can apply to straight couples as well. It's only homophobic if someone thinks that no babies means gay relationships shouldn't happen but doesn't believe the same thing of a straight couple who don't want to/can't reproduce.

I understand being angered by people believing that shit (I sure as hell am) but I personally wouldn't assume the OP was one of them based on so little.

I'm afraid that based on the inclusion of that reason in the list, I could see no alternative other than to attribute that view to the OP and it influenced my view of the whole post.

Gay marriage is very much on the agenda in the UK at the moment and that is one argument that comes up with monotonous regularity so it was red rag to a bull in my case.

Ah. Seems your life wasn't so short after all.

I have racism on that list. Racism. And upward in the thread we have people actively discussing that argument leveled against male/female couples. These are not intended to be a list of legitimate reasons, merely a list of reasons, and I'm finding it seriously insulting that you're assuming I must be homophobic for being able to even come up with it.

I'm sorry you're having gay marriage issues in your country right now but they're a rather large entity in my country too. That shouldn't make you incapable of reading comprehension or so wrapped up in your own smugness that you have no time to tell me why I'm wrong, just that I'm wrong and should feel bad.

There's no human right not to feel insulted, but there is a human right to equal treatment and the inclusion of that 'reason' in the list screamed homophobia to me. It still does. Trying to devalue the argument by using racism as some sort of trump card doesn't work.

I'm queer, you judgmental arrogant icon of a dog. Get the fuck out.

Oh look, another kind of trump card.

If you don't want people to make judgments don't lend validation to unpleasant arguments by including them within lists of valid ones.

Being gay isn't a trump card and saying that to someone who just told you they're queer is disgusting.

You're the only one with that interpretation of the post. I think you might be the problem.
